[art collab] The Deep Sea Collab! 2010-09-19 21:24:34

Hey guys, as I was saying in my news post, I've been thinking of starting a new art collab! Remember The Tricolor Collab? Well, I want to do something like that again, applying a restriction to the viewer that they can turn into a freedom of creativity. Let's get to it.

The theme is the Deep Ocean, or Abyssopelagic or Bathyal Zones, if you want to get technical. I feel that this is an area of the world that we know nothing about, yet it's one of the most fantastic. In fact, we've explored less than 1% of it!

So the art idea of the collaboration is to create a 600x600 pixel piece that features a creature or feature of the deep oceans. You have to abide by these rules:

1. The background must be a very dark colour, almost black. Yes, black is allowed as well.
2. Your strongest lines/outlines must be a very light colour, almost white, and yes; white is allowed as well.
3. You must feature at least three vibrant colours. Don't ask me how, that's up to you.
4. You must have fun.

Knowing you guys, I shouldn't have to say this, but just in case:

I know that we all want good quality work to become known, so make sure you put a lot of effort into this. I won't accept a drawing that you've only spent 45 minutes on, unless you're Adam Phillips/some good artist. Don't worry though, if I don't accept you at first, you can always try again with something new or revised.

So here are the technical specifications:

Dimensions: 600x600 pixels
Colours: Almost black background, almost white outlines, and three vibrant colours of your choice.
File format: .PNG (Post a .jpeg preview in this thread, followed by a link to the .PNG please.)
Content Rating: I don't care if you make something profane or crude, just make it really fucking good.
Signature: Be sure to sign the image, and make the piece's filename: USERNAME_TITLE OF PIECE. This will help me to tell who did what. (Obviously.)

EACH PERSON IS LIMITED TO 3 PIECES.

As some of you will want to know, I'll select the top nine people who contributed to this collab to be co-authors. Try hard!

Anywho, the deadline will be NOVEMBER FIRST 2010. Have all of your pieces in by then.

If you're looking for a great inspiration and reference, I recommend this

So have fun, and get creating, you guys!

sorry i had to

seems alright, the deep is the wierdest part of the ocean, so should give some good results artistically, dont agree with they should all be dark, and bright outlines though

Any ideas instead? I really want to install a major restriction to maximize creativity.

While I'm not so sure about the bright outlines, they should all be dark. It's the deep-sea; it's dark as hell down there.
This sounds interesting. A less-than-two-week time frame? I may not be able to get anything in due to being busy (school) but we'll see.

The rules state that a new thread must start with an original piece of art, that is; art that's done by you.

Common sense says that when starting a collab you should lead by example and post your own entry for the collab following the rules of the collab and such.

You have posted something that you did not create to start off your collab. That's pretty weak (link is NSFW, scroll down to 51).
