For a while now we have had malicious ad code running through one of our third party advertisers. This morning we isolated it on Dan's computer (it doesn't seem to affect XP users like myself). The code has been removed, but if you fell victim to it, read Dan's post about how to clean up the messs:
Also... There is an amusing thread dealing with the history of Newgrounds (you can read it here), and I felt the need to correct a whole lot of misinformation.
1. Scrotum the Puppy was the first entry submitted to the automated Portal system when it launched, but it was not the first Portal submission. There were over 100 entries (submitted via email by fans and hand-picked by me) in the Portal before we automated it.
2. The first two Portal entries were not by fans, but by me! I originally created the Portal as a dumping grounds for stuff I made that couldn't work as standalone features. This included a remake of one of my old Amiga cartoons, titled "Billy Bo Bob and John", where a truck runs over a guy. Yeah, I went through that phase just like all the kids here on NG.
When fans started submitting their own work, I added it to the list. The first fan-submission to be showcased was "Dennis, the Phantom Menace", followed by "How to Impale a Piggy" and "Kill a Hippie".
3. My first Flash was not Crazy Belmont (not by a longshot) and was not even Club a Seal. Although Club a Seal was the first feature on the site, Telebubby Fun Land was actually my first forray into Flash. The site was already pretty popular before I started applying Flash to my work. For everyone who has long forgotten, NG was originally a showcase of my own work, and not a public showcase like it is today!
4. The name Newgrounds comes from the name of my old Neo Geo fanzine, which was called "New Ground", a synonym for Neo Geo. The fanzine was not called "Neo Geo".
Hope this clarifies some stuff.
