it was probably an inside joke in the NG office.

it would have been better had it not been forced into some kind of meme by this forum.

Oh hai, andy.

It's because Tom wanted to increase awareness of the cult classic film, the room.

But that doesn't answer Andy's first question...

Was it the Nostalgia Critic? Did he start this mess? Well... really it was Obscurus Lupa, but what ever. Was it TGWTG?

I'm just gonna say that it was TGWTG, since there is no earlier reference to him on any major site that may affect newgrounds.

It has nothing to do with the Nostalgia Critic, the game was in development long before then. We just thought it would be funny to make a game based on it... Liljim changed my icon to Tommy W as a gag after I left for Tokyo Game Show. I'M READY FOR IT TO BE CHANGED BACK, JAMES.

And what sparked the idea for the game?

Some movie called "The Room," I think.

Well, I was half right.

After extensive investigation into the matte,r I had surfaced with over nine-thousand opinions of why Newgrounds would make a tribute to a movie that was only ever remembered for how bad it failed at life. Of course, most of these would have to turn out to be incorrect, so I investigated sources from pop culture and old Looney Tunes reruns, sacrificing most of my spare time to crack down on this case.

Most of these uncovered opinions were discarded almost immediately - it was obvious that Tom would never be bribed into such an endeavor, pouring his love and affection into something most peopel would call madness. That was basically half of them of gone - the next one to be discarded was that other Staff Members had pressured him into it. That would never happen to such a strong individual, so that was another lot gone.

Only 1337 remained at this point - most of which consisted of alien rape, conspiracy theories and dates with David Beckham. Those went out the fucking windows, leaving me with two - yes, just the two, theories, these theories being of utmost importance, possibly defining the culture and future of all Newgrounds users to come at any real point in the future. Yes, history may have depended on this, so I resolved to discover the true reason.

The two reasons were, respectively, "For teh lulz" and "Because Tommy Wiseau is a sexy beast". Despite my best reasoning skills I was always caught straight down the prime meridian. I had to rectify that, so using magical pelicans and pet rocks I fused the two together by the power of greyskull - creating a monstrosity of a reason so hideous to it spawned a fetish and can never be uttered out loud.

And that, is why I was half right.

I vaguely recall Adult Swim screened this film (with commercial interruption of course) a few years ago. I caught a few scenes of it and thought to myself "What is this? This is horrible."

But like anything the Internet gets its hands on it spreads like wild fire and now we have this mess on our hands. Expect any related threads to be littered with "Oh hi, _______" and "You're tearing me apart, ______!" responses.

Like good internet drones.

Tom replied and said that it wasn't TGWTG. He is yet to tell us what gave him the idea for a game.
