Well if you want to quickly get past brock and onyx choose bulbasaur or squirtle. Sometimes you have to grind a little if you choose charmander. But then you'll have higher level pokemon for later so it doesn't matter much.

Charmander always ALWAYS charmander, I have no idea why, but I always hated misty, right up until i either got slash, or Cut, both of those attacks, just eat Staryu's face so hard. I think that was the intent in the first place, kind of give you a feel for what 70 power really does to a creature with low Phys. Defence.
