I personally use a .7 mechanical pencil. Just make sure you have a few sticks of lead inside. But they are usually more dependable than a normal pencil, since the point can break or dull. Especially if you're sketching, where fine detail won't be the goal. Then again, I use mechanical pencils for everything, so I am quite fond of them.
If you do choose to use normal pencils, I would advise bringing along a few extras, or a pencil sharpener. Also, don't forget an eraser (I use a cap eraser that I just stick on the end of my pencil, but a kneaded one is prolly the best).
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee~!!!

Oh one of those eraser caps sounds like a good idea. The little eraser that is already on top of the pencil seems insufficient to my needs. Also I bought a pencil sharpener which I plan to take along too.

The only problem I have with mechanical pencils is that I can't tilt the pen to get much broader and softer lines like I can do with regular pens. But then again the extra lead sticks are possible very useful.

Maybe I just take two with me, a regular medium pencil and one mchanical, that should do it. Thanks a lot for the tips.

that does tend to be a problem, but you can compensate by doubling, or tripling your lines. Also another way is to have a larger mechanical pencil. I have a .9mm which slightly does the trick. You can also find 1 mm, but they are kind of rare, or you can get mechanical draftsmen pencils which support different sizes.

I use a mix of mechanical and normal pencils. I also carry a kneeded eraser, a white pvc eraser, and a nice brass pencil sharpener inside an old life savers fruit tarts tin that holds the old pencil shavings so I don't make a mess.... I should take a photo of my typical tools :P

Oh thanks a lot Kashi. Sorry but I had to leave Stickam yesterday.

In order to make this bump useful. This is what I need the blacklighting tutorial for:

I totally forgot about adding textures to the trash bin and the lid, but I think the fact that it is metal comes across nevertheless.

WIP for notepad drawing collab.

I usually don't do lines at all but I thought those sketchy lines would look good as "notepad drawing".

Will remove the coconuts or make just a bit of the stick out from under the leafs.

Dunno where to go after the hammock and writing in the sand is coloured. So any suggestions?

I think the sun looks too small for it to be setting, should look like it is submerging into the water possibly, but then again I'm not quite certain just from what I've seen. But I like the piece lol especially the dead guy who died relaxing, like it seems to be.. Or was it a murder?!?!?!

Art is vast as Love is deep, Trying to Explain the two is like trying to discover everything there is about the ocean.

I think the relative size of the sun depends on how close the viewer is to the island. Correct me if I'm wrong though. And the guy died relaxing and waiting for help, at least that was the idea. :P

Here comes a quick colouring of big-jonny-13's lineart he posted in his thread on friday 13th. I know it's a bit sloppy, but it was fun.

I kinda felt the urge to add a bandana to jason, but I was able to hold myself back. ^^

You can see a vast improvement from this piece to the piece above done for the sketch book collab. I like seeing improvement in my own work it makes me wonder what I'll be like in a year or two if I keep it up. Anyway, keep going dude. Your work is always getting more awesome.

Thanks for the kind words. The pic below was later though. It was a quick colouring, thus the lower quality compared to the notepad collab entry, I guess.

I like to see people improving by the help of the art forum and the regs around helped me a lot too. Actually, I had no idea about drawing when I first came here.

Here comes my first entry for the third installment of the Screw Collab.

Thanks for the feedback. I hope I get to back to actually realizing more of these ideas. :P

I thought I could just dump the drawings I have done for JackDGreatest's "The Weekly Color" here, in order to dust off my art thread. Thanks for the activity Jack it made me actually draw something again.

First one: Green (it's a bit blurry, but it was a quick one, so no refining)
