What Makes the Artist an Artist?

Now, I understand that a scanning moderator would see this as a thread that obviously belongs in the Art forum, but please, don't be too hasty.

Now, I've noticed, when posting a very interesting opinion about the state of the White House in my personal journal here on Newgrounds, that my news page appears in the "Riff-Raff" column of the news archives, next to the apparently more gentrified "Artists" column.

Now, I may be naive, but I've looked at a few of the folks that have news articles currently on that vertical swatch, and I saw many of them were just as, if not less, artistically active than I.

Now, I don't know if you know, but I'm no riff-raff. I've made the front page 4 times with my humorous little cartoonings. If that doesn't properly allow someone to correctly classify me as an "artist" or at least a "cartoonist," then I can honestly say that the system they are using is terrifically flawed.

If anyone could explain to me how one can properly push themselves out of this trash heap, I would be very much obliged.

It all depends on what you consider art, I'm an artist, if you do something you consider artistic, you're an artist too! We're ALL artists!

Yeah I don't think the art portal is a part of that whole system yet, I just checked the artist news and it shows one of mine on the full list, so I think it's safe to say you have to have submitted a flash or audio that passed judgment.
