this. And the funny thing is that there seems to be another movie in the works, anyway.
This is the sort of movie I'd pay for on dvd, rather then see at the cinemas. I'm pretty sure they were aiming for that, anyway - I haven't seen a single Scott Pilgrim trailer or movie showing in my area, although I'm totally aiming for that pretty dvd that's sure to come out.

Wow, a ton of people just can't accept that Michael Cera was in a good movie and if he's seriously the only reason that some of you didn't go see it, you're cheating yourself out of a very fun experience. It's worth watching regardless of him being the main character.

Also this film will do better on DVD. If it hadn't opened alongside The Expendables, then it would have done better in theaters too.

I believe this question requires a legitamate answer. not liking the character he plays is hardly a reason to call an actor "sucky". if he really did suck, he wouldn't be in any movies in the first place. I don't think this whole micheal cera deal would even bother me as much if even half the people who dislike him gave a more legitimate reason than "I think he's a bad actor because he doesn't have diverse roles". do you people complain about stallone? samuel jackson? no. because you like the roles they're in. just because you don't like the guy doesn't mean he's bad at acting. also, if I may direct you to cracked.com and screen junkies to prove my point.

Seriously. There's nothing wrong with michael cera, he just plays the same role in every movie, but that doesn't mean it's bad. The reason this movie was a box office bomb was because it was targeted at gamers and gamers pirate the FUCK out of movies.

Pirating might have been one reason but I think in large it was because people seem to have had this idea that it was a movie solely for gamers, geeks, and fans of the comic. Plus for some reason people thought it was a hipster film, which it isn't, in fact I think it makes fun of hipsters.

I also don't think it's because it came out the same week as The Expendables. It came in 6th place in the box office opening week, The Expendables didn't have shit to do with that.

And as far as Micheal Cera goes I figure his being in the movie probably did harm its success but I still don't get peoples hatred for him. You say you don't like the roles he plays in? Maybe thats his kind of character, your not asking Adam Sandler to be in an action movie or for Bruce Willis to be in a romantic comedy are you? Then don't blame Micheal Cera for doing the roles he's good at.

Critics also irritated me with this film. Many of them bashed it because of Cera or their misconceptions that it was a hipster film or their dislike of videogame films before it even hit theaters. One critic is even noted to have given the film a bad rating with out admittedly seeing the film predicting it to be "hipster garbage".

All in all this is a time in my life where I'm starting to realize that the veiwing public is fucking dumb as shit. These are the same people who keep putting money into the pockets of Freidburg and Seltzer allowing them to make more of their awful parody films and made Transformers 2 one of the highest grossing films of all time. Face it, true cinematic quality is wasted on the simple minded moviegoing youth of today and may soon die of for future Hollywood money-grabbing schemes to take their place.

That's a small part of it, but it's also the same for any other movie that holds an interest to males between the ages of 15-30, and certainly it's not enough to make that big of a dent against the amount of money the film could have made. Again, other movies like Expendables and Eat Pray Love that released the same day, drew the most people because those are safe films and people don't want to take a chance on the nerdy/gaming flick. That and the advertising for SP wasn't very good. The feelings on the trailers were average for most people and unless you're a big comic fan, most people had never heard of the series before this movie.
