First of all, I fucking depsise Slipknot. But it's because EVERY "true metalhead" is a complete cunt. They all assume they are THE music guru, and if it isn't "their music", it's shit. I have NEVER in my life spoken to one that isn't like that. I've also never met a thin one. Or one that doesn't think they're better than everyone. In fact, they're just scum, just ignore them and continue listening to Shitknot, it's your choice. :)

I don't understand most of the dislike for Slipknot. In fact, I thought Slipknot was popular -- they have their own section in the Music Videos section on here. I guess people just grow and change.

Yeah yeah, constant monotone growling for the duration of every song. That doesn't lose its cool factor after 12 tracks. I don't have anything against the growling or screaming. Just mix it up a little. Grow a little here, scream at little there, and at least sing every now and then. I prefer screaming over growling though. Most growling is just a low rumble without variation. Screaming has energy and variation.

Not that every death metal band uses only growling. Just talking about the ones that do.

1) Slipknot isn't metal. They're Nu-metal/ aggro rock.

2) There is no coordination. The guitarists just chug power chords while joey just abuses his ghost pedals and does blast beats even if the song doesn't call for it.

3) The vocals are utter shit. Anyone can talk in a raspy voice. He does not scream, growl, or shriek.

4) They focus more on trying to be 8r00t@l than they do on trying to make good music.

Slipknot is a terrible band that gets ALL of their fame from angsty teens who haven't yet found good music.

Because there's a very high population of aspies on the BBS who are incapable of accepting opinions.

I'm not going to make sweeping generalizations about slipknot fans because that's unfair and only inflames the lack of tolerance between listeners of different genres.

instead I will make sweeping generalizations about people that listen to all metal, except maybe bands like Opeth, and proto-heavy metal like Sabbath and Zeppelin because they had tact. while every other metal band I've ever heard has the same terrible, soulless unremarkable guitar tone that has no character, brutal drumming, and bass that is mixed so low and mimicks the guitarists' lines so closely that it doesn't matter anyway.

I have- without exaggeratiing only met one person who is a 'metal-head' and not been a total fucking loser in some capacity and made my face cringe like a baby making that face they make when they eat something they really don't like, what I like to call the 'poopy face'.

As a fan of bands like TV On the Radio, Madvillian, Neutral Milk Hotel, or Pulled Apart By Horses, you sort of have to ask yourself whether or not they actually have alot of appeal to other audiences; namely, the sort of audience you appeal to or the sort your friends do.

If you like metal and hang out with metalheads, the general consensus is that Nu-metals tendency to experiment with hip hop and grunge and other genres is not welcome; Metal is it's own separate entity with it's own sub-genres, much like how rap is its own with R&B pop and jazz as similar genres and subsets.

That said, it's sort of a norm for bands to 'experiment' and mix genres with only natural stuff. There's sort of a tendency for people who favor one of the genres and not both to not like rap/rock, which slipknot is at some level (nu metal being metal and mostly hip hop / rock genres).

While I'm not saying that makes the band bad, or it validates their rationless hatred, it is somewhat understandable to say that they aren't the kind of stuff you'd listen to if they use alot of techniques that you don't like (ie: the turntables, or the 3 drummers)

Plus, there's also the gimmickyness. They got popular at the exact time that nu metal had it's first wave of popularity, and they've mostly rode that out. That, and they have those fucking masks, which is another bag of worms in and of itself.

Then there's the matter of their fans, who range from casual singles listeners to batshit insane. The maggots 4 lyf bravado the band attracts really doesn't help their image that much.

oh, and there's the question of actual music quality; I couldn't tell you anything about that since I avoid slipknot like the plague (SORRY NU METAL AND METAL IN GENERAL AREN'T MY BAG OF TEA) but if people don't think their songs are good, then they probably aren't good to them.

Regardless, this is from the point of view of someone who mostly favors Indie and classic rock. So take from it what you will. Since I don't listen to shit metal made by cunts who think pick sweeping is the greatest thing discovered by humanity i can't give you a reason why they don't like them.

but imho though, I think slipknot is a terrible band who makes shit music, but that's just from what I've listened to from them.

...You don't seem to know what composition is, because while it's usually shit slipknot usually has a fairly layered song structure replete with sampling and Dj'ing. Fact of the matter is, the guitars chug power chords because they aren't always leading.

'Studio enhancement' is a myth at some level. A vocalist will do several takes, and sometimes double track, but that's usually about it.

I won't sit here and say their vocalist is any good, but it certainly is better than generic fucking metal growls made by some dave mustaine looking cunt with no sense of vocal talent or some random fucking screams over an interlocking double bass pounding / guitar shredding wankery.
