Why is it that having Slipknot on my favourite bands list has gotten me so much hate? Really, what's so bad about Slipknot? I get comments and messages on various sites from "trve metalheads" who say "you like slipknot you suck ass". People who like this and this and even this, basically bands with interchangable sounds and equally interchangable logos, often say to me "you should listen to some trve black metal".
I like a lot of that kind of metal, even though I just called it interchangable. (or is it interchangeable?) But even when I tell them that, they still insist on letting me know how they feel about Slipknot with a variety of "creative" words. What's so bad about Slipknot?
Just because a lot of "scene", "emo", or whatever you call those people, like Slipknot, that doesn't make me one just for liking them, nor does it make them a bad band. I think people who hate on Slipknot should either give them a try or keep their opinions to themselves...
I don't want to start an argument with this thread, nor will I be participating in any argument if one should arise, just thought I'd give you my thoughts. That's all.

Heavy metal is not a genre of music. Its a way to make a noise irritating enough to make ears bleed. For example a heavy metal guitar players "playing" consists of screaming like some sort howler monkey that should be sent back to Africa and plucking the strings randomly and so hard that their practically torn out with their fingers bleeding.
The only thing you can be certain about is uncertainty.
Slipknot just aren't that good... they get way too much attention for what they do and most of it's an act.
They have to wear shitty costumes and fill up their roster with way too many unneccessary numbers to get attention. And then when the 12 of them do get together to make music, it's generic shit that any 12 year old with a guitar could produce.
What's the point? They're not even that tough when compared to other metal bands.
At least... that's how I see it. Then again, I hate any band or group that has to make up for their lack of musical talent with a shitty gimick or stage costume. Spend more time practicing and less time putting on costumes.

Personally, I find a lot of their stuff too shouty and... "RARWARAWODKOWJDOWJDOWJ", for lack of better wording. However, some tracks that I have liked include Dead Memories, Psychosocial, Vermilion, Duality and Left Behind (although the last is a bit... rawr). But that's just me, you can listen to whatever you want - people who do all of this b'awwwing about "shit music" all the time fail to remember that they don't have to listen to it.

This music video and song was plenty to make me a slipknot fan. Such a sad fucking song. My interpretation is that it's about a woman that all men wish existed. But she doesn't, she's a myth. So yeah, i like slipknot because unlike some of the screaming garbage out there the lead singer can actually sing. They yell and scream to convey emotion in their music. Every song that I've heard from them has a message to it. Unlike some garbage that I've heard that's just screaming to sound "cool" Slipknot has my vote.
Some people don't bother to listen to the lyrics of a song to try and understand why they are screaming. They just hear loud noises that displeases them. But, that's what it's supposed to do! It helps you convey the emotion that they are screaming to you.

It's not that they are bad, it is that they are overrated. You know what pisses me off? When I type the letters "sl" into youtube and see Slipknot come up before Slayer. That shouldn't happen! Plus they have two "percussionists" who just bang on things. Pathetic. Add some drum attachments and fire these extras. Plus the masks are a gimmick. They have some good songs but they don't deserve to be where they are now.

I like Slipknot and I agree with you that you can't go anywhere on the internet without a load of dicks saying Slipknot "isn't real metal blah blah blah".
It's genre is Metal so that's what it is. Just because it isn't a bunch of uneducated dicks screaming about how they want to kill themselves in stupid ways doesn't mean it isn't "proper metal".
