4.07 / 5.00 13,902 ViewsOk so Ive decided to create 2 fairly firm models for a character im going to use in an Animation soon.
And i was wondering if anyone can give me some feedback on which one looks best and how i may improve on either of these models.
Ill also upload an image of the landscape and theme of the game so you can have a better understanding of how the character is going to look.
If your going to use the gray one for the animation perhaps you should add some more solid shading so that it maybe won't look weird as it's silhouette standing idly by in it's position.
Both characters are very simple and quite boring, no facial expressions and they don't seem to have much personallity or character to them. You should work on the character design alot more. Give him some clothes and a more stylised body structure. It could be helpful to look at some other simple characters that people have done and then do several quick figure sketches to find one you like the best and that works well.
I don't understand why the grey guys body is so simple and he has no outline but you give him a moderately detailed eye. Really a circle or dot can work extremely well for eyes and make things easier to animate. So try out different shapes and types of bodies and keep practicing and you should be able to come up with something quite good. The background is looking quite interesting.
Ok taking in what both of you have said i realized you only focused on the Left model meaning the one on the right probably wasn't as good so Ive worked on him a little and i am about to present what i think should be the final design for my character.
Before i show him id like to thank you for the help and explain what Ive done, I added some clothes and because the style im heading towards is less detail but more impact Ive designed him on a very small detail basis, such as no shading etc. However saying this i will have his hair jiggle as he walks/runs etc. and will add as much detail into animation as possible.
Also Ive kept him to three basic colors so he blends in with the background and fits the picture but also so you can see him against the dark setting i am creating.
He wears a vest and shorts because the story is, hes gone into a deep sleep nightmare, thus making him wear whatever he was when he slept :) This also means less editing of clothing and more fun, plus it fits into the story quite well.
Anyway im happy with it but here it is.
I like the black one a lot more, It just looks overall better
I would recommend the black one, but with the eye from the grey one. And as this seems to be your first bigger animation project, don't worry about the character being simple, he's easier to animate like that. I just think you should change the background, because it could be too much black in black.
So far the style of the character and the background look like they match.

i would recommend something a bit more than a big fat stick figure
and the "remake" looks even worse then the first two. you are just slapping poorly made clothes onto a very plain, boring, and far too simple form and adding spiky hair to a head which is way too big and a single eyeball to top it off
I like the fact you've taken your time out however, All i really wanted was a little help perfecting my idea, if its too detailed then it just wont work for my idea, i need something that looks like a human but theres many things to it that it looks quite far off.
Plus for an early animation with an animator with experience in Stick figures only its plausible that he looks the way he does and that the sheer though of making something i myself cant animate with no experience in the field is quite far fetched!
