Probably means the troops that actually fought. There's probably still troops in Iraq just to keep it safe or in control.

Yeah, it's only for combat troops. There are still gonna be about 50,000 troops left to act as a kind of police force. They basically try and help setup security for the country.

Yep. People have been deluded into thinking that our influence will be gone by the end of 2011. Puh-lease.
Here's a peach from the OP's article. Government officials aren't even afraid of hiding it anymore.
At that point, the US mission in Iraq will be re-christened Operation New Dawn, from Operation Iraqi Freedom - the name given to American operations since the 2003 invasion.
US state department spokesman Philip Crowley described the end of combat operations as a "historic moment," but vowed that America's long-term commitment was unwavering.
"The last thing that we want to see is an occasion where we have to send troops back into Iraq yet again, so we are ending the combat phase of our involvement in Iraq for a second time," he said.
"We're not ending our involvement in Iraq. We will have important work to do. This is a transition. This is not the end of something. It's a transition to something different. We have a long-term commitment to Iraq."
Mr Crowley said that after spending $US1 trillion in Iraq and with 4,400 lives lost, the conflict had come "at high expense".
"We've invested heavily in Iraq and have to do everything we can to preserve that investment to integrate Iraq along with the neighbourhood into a much more peaceful situationthat serves their interests as well as ours," he said.
We're there to stay, folks.

Yes it does. Like some bazzilion years ago there were these dudes who fought with swords and horses and shit, but now they use all kinds of machine guns and stuff. And helicopters.

They're not leaving, they're just moving somewhere else and staying there to preserve peace. That hardly counts as "over".

They will have some troops to stay in Iraq to mantain "peace" or untill are goverment see that Iraq can stay afloat on it's own. Probably the combat troops will return the rest will stay in Iraq I suppose.

Good, I appreciate what this chap is doing for the U.S.
However, there is a lot to do, and the Iraq war was merely a distraction from other, more important issues, such as global warming, economic crunch and korean nukes.
Obama has got to attend to all of them.

Pulling out would be a stupid idea.
Iraq is ill equiped to forge on it's own right now. If we leave, before you know it, another civil war would occur and another totalitarian Islamic group would take the country over. Before you know it they'd swear revenge on the Americans for whatever reason, do a major bombing on NATO soil, and we'd all be right back in Bagdhad with another handfull of casualties and another reason for the Arabic world to hate us. I can understand that Obama means well, and that Iraq wants full independence, but they can't handle that at the moment. The strong still have way too much control over the populance, evidenced by all of the suicide bombings.
I want to pull out just as much as everyone else, but it doesn't seem like the smart thing to do.

P It's a possilbility. Iraq has become a little more tame since the troops went in. It all depens on how the Iraq goverment can stabalize it's self again and how will terrorisim effect the the stabalizing process in Iraq.
