I'm buying a new iBuyPower Battalion Touch CZ-11 laptop in 5 days. Here are the (pasted) specs of it:
15.5 inch full 1080p multi-touch screen
8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM
Intel Core i7 740 QM (1.74 GHz x4)
Fingerprint Reader
2.0 MP web cam
ATI Radeon HD 5650 1GB GDDR3 (DirectX 11 capable)
128 GB Kingston SSD
Total cost: $1,647
Newgrounds on a touch screen is gonna be epic!
The new site layout is epic...
(oh and so is Minecraft.)

Congratulations. Your computer has less space than an iPod.

External hard drive. 128gb is enough to put my studio programs and OS onto to increase speed. For anything else an external drive is sufficient.

That'll be convenient.
"Dude, show the *thing* you told me about!"
"Sure, let's just go home, find my external hard drive, find the power cable, and plug it in to my laptop, thereby rendering it non portable, the main point in buying a laptop."
"Excellent! *guitar*"
Even if your external hard drive uses two usb port for power, instead of a, AC plug-in, it'll still be somewhat inconvenient. However, you seem to know what you are doing, not some schmuck suckered into buying it by a best buy employee, so I'll leave you be.

Yes, because Solid State Drives and iPod hard drives are totally on the same playing field, right? I'd rather have the SSD (Although I'd probably rather have gone with the 80gb x25-m, myself).
I wouldn't bother with the external hard drive either, because it looks like that laptop has an additional 2.5" storage bay. You could get a 2.5" 640gb internal HDD for $80-90. Even the 1TB ones are around $130 last time I checked.

They are. Both are impractically expensive for little better performance over the cheaper option. SSDs are faster than HDDs, yes. But that extra speed isn't really needed. It would be nice, sure, but you'll pay more for a SSD than a HDD with the same storage. HDDs are cheaper, and do just as fine a job. IPods have more space than a "generic" MP3 player, but you don't really need 160GB in your MP3 player.
