4.09 / 5.00 12,195 ViewsHello! I'm new round these parts, and I've been tinkering with things on my userpage. I've just attempted to upload a picture of mine, and although everything mostly seems to have happened as it should, there's something odd going on with the commentary. In three places, punctuation marks have been replaced with a string of random characters, and no matter what I do I can't get rid of them. If I try to use the "edit" function, it lets me rewrite the commentary - but when I tell it to save the changes, it goes back to the original version with all the errors still present. This even happens if I delete everything - clicking "Submit" just sees all the text reappear, errors and all. Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated!
Matt
Do you mean on this pic?
There's a few EU symbols, are they what you mean?
Try refreshing your internet cache, though.
Yup, that's the picture, and the "EU" bits are the glitches I can't seem to get rid of. Clearing the internet cache seems not to have made a difference, sadly - I still can't get the text to change at all.

your using some kind of text or punctuation the system doesnt recognise, something with accents or wierd languages do it

copying and pasting from other programs such as word tents to cause the punctuation to screw up like that.

You're right, I think that must be what caused the glitches to appear. The odd thing is, the "edit" function won't let me change the text in any way - when I hit "Submit", the text on the submission page reverts to the version with the mistakes still present.

Ah, that's probably what caused the initial problem - I copied the text across from Pages (I use a Mac). Still a bit baffled as to why the edit function won't work, though.

yeah, you'd have to go and clear them out manually.... one by tedious one....so it's just best to ignore it

You were right - the glitch seemed to go very deep indeed, but I finally managed to correct things by re-submitting the entire piece with the commentary reformatted. Hurrah!
Many thanks for the pointers and advice, guys.
Nice :)
In future, questions about using the site normally go in the Wi/Ht lounge
( but redirecting people looking for help when you can probably provide an answer is lame)
... and make sure you get 4 pieces uploaded, so you can get scouted ;)
