I have been warned against Runescape HEAVILY. I have been playing Maplestory though. It's like...I know it's crap...but I still keep coming back for more...Another good free online game is League of Legends. The game is good, the community sucks. Good god. A bunch of whiney prepubescent nerds all hopped up on caffeine and grumpy from staying up too late. ugh

MapleStory is good. You will know it's shit. You will know it's a waste of time (and money if you buy something). BUT YOU WILL NOT STOP. EVER. YOU WILL CONTINUE MASHING SHIFT. YOU WILL CONTINUE GRINDING. AND YOU WILL FUCKING LIKE IT.

Alternatively, Mabinogi. Shit's awesome and it goes by my one philosophy for MMOs: If you're gonna grind, do it right and don't have an end. WoW? Bullshit level cap. You get to 80, do your end game shit, and then make a new character and do it over again! Mabinogi? You get to 100. You get to 200. You get to 500. You get to 1000. You get to 2000 fucking levels AND IT DOES NOT END. You never restart because you hit a level cap and it feels fuckawesome to do so. Bored with magic? Fuck it, train melee skills. Bored with that? Ranged is waiting. What happens when that bores you? Alchemy! What if I get bored fighting? THEN YOU GET YOUR ASS BACK IN THE KITCHEN AND START FUCKING COOKING BECAUSE YOU FUCKING CAN.
