I need help getting rid of a virus.. I know this probably isn't the right place to be posting this but I don't know where to go. I'm on my iPod touch posting this because my comp is fucked with that virus. The virus is something like 217837.exe and I don't know how I got it... When I turn my computer on 2 antivirus programs pop up that I've never downloaded.. I can't open anything but firefox but I can't do anything because of THIS PROGRAM IS INFECTED pop ups from the fake anti virus programs. I have my comp and Internet unplugged so the virus doesent get any info and doesent spread. So if anyone can tell me how to get rid of this shit I will give you a muffin.

You can try one of the following:

Create a live USB of Linux and boot up with that. Then use a command line virus scanner or remove the infected files manually.

Use a CD or USB flash drive to bring an anti-virus application onto the infected computer.

Reformat the drive. It's the most effective way, but you'll lose everything.

Yes. You'll need to install a new operating system. You can try to create a rescue disc of Windows or you could just install Linux instead for free.

Don't fucking reformat. The guy above me is an idiot. Try to get the virus off first. If all else fails, hire someone to fix it for you. It will cost money and take time, but the pros will get it done. Reformating is for people who are too fucking lazy to fix things themselves.

Or MalwareBytes. Either will work.

First off, why the hell do you have Windows Vista? Get XP or 7, hell get '98, anything other than Vista. Also, did you even read what I posted?

I never said that it's the first thing that should be done.

Reformatting is useful for when you can easily back up all of your files or you don't care about anything you have on your computer. Sometimes it's just not worth the effort to remove a virus manually, the virus is embedded into vital system files, or the virus blocks all attempts to remove it.

When you start the computer do ctrl+alt+delete and kill the process before the virus starts up completely. Then delete the virus file.

The name of the actual process is randomly generated it would seem.
This is usually a sign of a very difficult to remove pc infection.
The virus maker has done his homework.

I suggest that you take the easy way out, if you are able to... backup files that you absolutely need... and reformat/reinstall your os.

Otherwise you are looking at hours of tedious registry searches, and the end result will probably be less effective than just reformatting.

If you are careful you may be able to partition your drive, (if you are smart about quarantine) and transfer your old vital files to your new partition without getting infected.

Good luck.
