example: you want six pack abs, but it takes a few months to obtain. you have the chance to get them instantly, but it takes that time off of your life. You die a few months sooner than you would, but those were the months you would have spent working. i see this as a good deal because then the time you would have spent working (which would have been an incredible strain) is no longer there, and you can have the reward in turn for the time you would have been working and straining.
would you take this deal?
my question is, would you do it?
That's an interesting thought, I think. But my answer is no. I enjoy my life, and cannot imagine giving up even a little bit of my time here on Earth. I guess the way I was raised was to work to earn stuff. And I hate the people who get things they don't deserve because of their parents or grandparents (or so on) being wealthy. They didn't work to get it, they just got it.
Even though you made the analogy of getting six-pack abs, I thought of the question in a monetary way. But still, I would not give up some of my life time to instantly get muscles. It's kinda weird, now that I think about it.

the abs were just an example, didnt mean to make it wierd
20 years of working done instantly + keeping all the money you would have made during that time, but i only live to 40 or something?
i would take it
If you worked hard to get it, why not enjoy it with the more life instead of getting some removed?

I asked this same exact question after watching "Paycheck", where they wipe your memories after working on a project for a number of years so it's as if those years never happened, yet you're sitting on top of a big pile of cash.
I personally wouldn't, a lot could happen in the time you'd lose.
True story...
I don't want to be old anyways. Old people are just miserable...
So yeah, I'd take off a couple decades of my life to enjoy it while I'm young.

No. It's simply not worth losing all of those years of my life.

it doesnt have to be years.
say you dont want to mow the lawn. it will take an hour off your life, but you still get the exercise and the nice looking lawn.
i just figure it makes things easier.
It would only be practical in some situations.
The only real difference in doing the work and skipping that whole section is, if you just skip, you would miss every other experience you might have had during that time.
Well technically you're not skipping, you're taking it off the end... and who does jack shit when they're old and senial anyway?
But would it only be the 9-5 I was working, or would it be the entire day, including coming home from work, weekends, ect, until the length of time was up.
If the latter, no way. If it was the just literally the time I spent working, that wouldn't amount to all that much really, so yeah I'd take that.
My Answer is no. i wouldn't like to lose any precious time at all on Earth and i do not mind working for stuff

I wouldn't. I would miss too many experiences that I would never get to have.

exactly, not many people would want to live in a nursing home, so senile that they can't even wipe their own ass. i say if i only live to be 70, but my time on earth was spent much more efficiently, i would definetly go for it
From the example you gave, you would lose technically more time then you deserve to lose. Because i worked for several months on abs doesn't mean it's what i did all day every day, so i would be losing all of that spare time i could spend having sex with my girlfriend or playing with my daughter. Get what i am saying?

so i take it you wouldn't make the exchange?
Personally I say no, because actually dedicating time to doing something is not only character building but also far more rewarding when you finally achieve your goal. If you could instantly get anything that you had to work towards then it would detract from the satisfaction of actually obtaining whatever it is that you wanted.
It depends on the thing, but I'm pretty sure in most cases I would say no. It's not all about the end result, it's about the entire process, that is what makes life enjoyable and what makes the outcome appreciated.

Well, if getting a six pack took months off of my life, then no, I wouldn't because I wouldn't have spent months straight doing nothing but working towards a six pack. I would lose out on the time I would have used to do other things, like post on the BBS or hang out with friends.
I would not think it was a good deal, because it is never a good idea to shave time off of your life. It strikes me as downright disturbing that getting abs would in any way cause you to live less. If this is making a deal with the devil or something, I would gladly be out of it. I mean, think of all the things besides working out that I could get done in all those years? Think of all the friends and journeys I would miss.
