the only thing that i have attached to it is an mp3 file but i fear that it may become way too big to upload to newgrounds.
ive seen some 5min+ flash music videos that barely go over 1mb! how do i get my flash to be that size?
Go to file>publish settings
There, you can drop the SWF. JPEG quality down, and doing it to an un-noticeable extent still helps file size quite a bit. You can also drop the sound quality in the publish settings as well.
convert your mp3 to a WAV. Flash can compress it better.
Also try to do most your animations and such inside of symbols, Again flash can compress better.
Try to avoid images that are to big, If your using jpegs, convert em to png or bitmaps.
also try to resize them to fit your flash screen, not just transform them down.
try to reuse as many things as you can, Example if you have a black background, make it a symbol and copy and past it, instead of making a new black background.
alot of little things can really help keep the file size down.
also note that your FLA file does not reflect the exported SWF file. so if your FLA is 100 megabytes, its usually due to the fact its holding alot of images and sounds in the library, but when exported its only going to use what is being played and compress the rest.

thanks!
this makes alota sense!
Also regarding background: If you make a rather large/complex/many layer background, you should export the compiled image and then delete the original imagery and import the image you just exported.
This really cuts down file size, but if you are using a moving camera (v-cam) or doing any zooming in the background will look pixelated, so size your art to fit your needs.
