Since there seems to be a shitload of you if you are wanting a gaming computer let me give you a set up that will give you some numbers and models to work with.
Here is some shit I recommend.
\\ THE BASICS
This is shit you need, but probably shouldn't worry about as much for gaming if you are a first timer.
~CASE
~HARD DRIVE
~DVD+RW
~KEYBOARD
~MICE
~RAM
~MONITER
~PSU
\\SHIT THAT MATTERS
This is shit that matters, shit that matters should be as cheap as the basics, but a shit load of more importance than the basics. There are also preferences, the 1st 2 are an INTEL setup.
\\\\VIDEO CARDS
These video cards are for 60fps in games like Half Life 2/Garry's mod.
\\\\\NVIDIA
Sure, after the break off with INTEL Nvidia does run decently on AMD boards, but AMD should be reserved for ATI because of Driver support. Use these with INTEL boards.
~9500
\\\\\ATI
Works best with AMD boards
~4650
Remember this guide is for those IGNORANT with computers, that means tacofreak and thosesneakyfrench, please don't come in here and criticize the list. Just give links to what you could suggest.
These setups are for the budget man.

Very basic stuff here, but do you know how to hack programs, write them, make custom computers and so on.

You're never going to be able to help too much without knowing someone's exact budget and what they want to use the computer for.
I also wouldn't trust that power supply. If I were ignorant about the latest components, I'd just get a Corsair.

Jabeeb, how fast is 512 MB and will it cope with a ATi Radeon HD 5780? Can it run Crysis. I have Windows 3.0, you see...

The RAM and PSU are basics?
With a small amount of RAM, your computer will be incapable of playing most games and even when it does manage to play small games, it will be plagued by page faults.
The PSU is very important. If you get one that doesn't deliver enough power, your computer will either not run or it will break.
What about fans? If you don't at least have a CPU fan, you'll almost certainly fry your CPU within 3 seconds of turning your computer on the first time. Lack of fans can reduce the lifetime of your computer by half.
Another thing you didn't mention is the operating system. The operating system is very important when considering what kind of games you want to play. Some operating systems do not have ported versions of some games and must be run in a compatibility layer.

I am afraid that the only way you can run those programs is by sending me 1 thousand dollars by mail, deleting system 32, move to south of the states and put all over your house signs that sya that incest is wrong.
Also 512 MB is the maximum speed a prius can drive at.

That rig will not get 60 fps out of Half Life 2. I doubt it can run any games from the last 3 years except on the lowest settings.

Okay, maybe I could have worded that a little better.
What I meant to say is Corsair PSUs are always a safe bet in the midst of uncertainty (Or if you just don't want to bother researching which PSUs are quality).

For a gaming PC I just use any cheap 500W PSU - Preferably with a 120mm fan.
What I find interesting is that a basic $45 ATI Radeon 4xxx PCI-E video card runs more games than my 5 year old $450 GeForce 6800GT!
