I've never had Directv but I hated having Dish Network. Almost every single time there was a thunderstorm I couldn't watch tv.

Yes but wait until you're old enough where you have to start paying a cable/dish company. That's when you start hating all of them.

They're both equally bad, seeing as how if it storms, they lose signal. I mean, when it's storming, there's nothing better to do besides surf the net/watch some TV, but because you receive your TV through a satellite dish, you'll lose your connection at that time when it's storming.
I like cable connection (such as Comcast) much better.

It's worse when your internet is satellite based, too.

DirecTV
Pros: better channel selection, better customer service, better guide layout.
Cons: owned by Rupert Murdoch.
Dish Network
Pros: Self-owned, slightly cheaper, DVR included.
Cons: Service has improved, but is not yet on par with DirecTV.
Comcast
Comcast sucks. End of story.
Overall, I prefer DirecTV. But I hate Rupert Murdoch enough that I'll use Dish instead.

Why would you bump such an old thread?
Anyway, DirecTV is great, better than it used to be. You can record 5 shows at once, access the DVR from any other TV instead of just the main box, the DVR holds 1TB of space, and you can use YouTube and Pandora on it. It's the best service I've ever had. And the on demand selection for HBO is fucking sweet. I dunno if it's the same with other providers or not, but I got to watch all four seasons of Game of Thrones and now, I'm in the middle of Boardwalk Empire.
Dish is not so good. The signal goes out WAY too goddamn easily. I mean it goes out all the time. It once went out on me because the dish had a tiny bit of light snow on it. I brushed it off and the signal came back. And recording is just bad. Even on another TV, you can't change the channel when the main box is recording two shows. On the main box, that's understandable, but not on the other TVs. Also, the interface could be better.

I know this was bumped and a lot of the people I quoted probably won't see this for a long time, but I'm doing this anyways.

Both are satellite TV. It's a scientific fact that when inclement weather gets between the satellite and the receiver, you lose connection. That's not Dish's fault, that's simply a con of having thousands of channels shot at you at the speed of light.

Sure, having 60-something channels is way better than having thousands of channels.
Not to mention satellite TV has channel guides built into the system, with cable you just get that retarded channel that slowly scrolls through all 60 of your channels.

I pay 40 dollars a month for literally 9,000+ channels, a sexy interface, and a sexy channel guide that I couldn't live without.
Seriously, I don't understand how anyone who cares about TV in the least bit can use a service that has a button you hit, you see, that brings up this window. It's got every channel you have in the order that you choose, has a description of the episode of whatever it is including a summery of the episode, the main actors, original air date, everything you could imagine. You can use the remote to browse this guide, while watching what you want in a small box at the top right side of the screen. You can click on any of the shows in the guide, and set up recording and reminder timers.

Cable may not have an answer to the hopper or the Genie yet, but Cable has had built in tv guides, thousands of channels, etc. for at least the past 10 years, probably longer. It has long matched satellite in this regard.

Then it's obviously more expensive than dish because every single person who I've seen with cable didn't have that option, they literally just had a cable that plugged into the back of the TV.
