Do you smoke marijuana at all? I heard that there is a very rare case where pot smokers who have pre-existing psychological effects it can trigger something like that and maybe the heat was just an addition. I dunno.

Either way I think you'll be fine for the moment but it's worth looking into.

I just got back and he wants me to have an MRI to look at my temporal lobe after his own tests (electroencephalogram, blood test and physical exam) showed no abnormalities. So yeah. More time off work for me.

Damn, I always dread the day a doctor would tell me this. Someone convinced my an LP is extremely painful.

Plus, I already received a Menactra injection in 2008 to protect against meningitis and I'm pretty confident that the main cause was the heat.

There are several things that can cause meningitis, the main cause perhaps treated by the vaccin, still leaves several others.

Anyone else have any experience with seizures at all?

No, 2 years ago I did went all dizzy all of a sudden, feeling ill, no fever or anything. The world just started spinning about. I went to the doctor and she said something about a haemmorage maybe. But I responded well to the follow the finger excersises and I just had to sta home for bit, so it ended well.

My dad had a seizure once and it was for the weirdest reason. There was something wrong with his eyes in which fat seem to cover his eyelids and it was getting harder to keep up. He went to the doctor and got it all fixed, but then the next morning, I heard some weird sounds he was making and my mom said that he had a seizure, which was in fact the third he ever had in his life. I was worried, but he recovered really quickly.

Just wondering, do you smoke marijuana? Or have/do you take any other drugs that might have cases of these side effects? I'm learning a lot about medicine and sickness so this stuff interests me. Of course your doctor is probably a much more reliable source of information than me.

At the time I posted this thread, rarely. That's still the case.

I know I posted this a long time ago, but I had another seizure this morning (4th time ever, and despite 1,000 mg of levetiracetam/day) so this thread is now relevant again. There's petechiae on my face (red/purple spots in case you aren't familiar with the term), my tongue is sore as usual and there may be some nerve damage in the front. Ugh, fuck life. Any help at all before I'm able to see any doctors would be appreciated.

I started having seizures and passing out in 2007. They did a million CT scans, EEGs, EKGs, MRIs, sleep studies etc and nothing showed anything. But I'd have seizures weekly, and finally they got bad enough to where I'd be unconscious for several minutes. At one point, I even lost my driver's license. Ive seen TONS of doctors (I have great insurance) and they come up with nothing. They put me on several seizure meds which didn't work, gave me other worse health issues, horrible side effects, or gave me allergic reactions. Finally I had an endocrinologist do some serious blood panels on me and they noticed I wasn't absorbing any vitamins--particularly b12--so they put me on sublinguals. I take sublinguals under my tongue every morning, I take more around lunch, then a regular one a day vitamin at night. It's been a year since I've had a seizure.

I really hope they can figure this out for you.

I totally know how you feel, how frustrating it is, and I wish you the best.

I'm intrigued now. I'll have a talk with my internist about this (she's pretty conservative when it comes to prescribing medications anyway--that's why I like her so much), since most of the solutions my neurologist has brought up just involves more medications and expensive testing. I'll continue taking the Keppra he prescribed me for now but I want to get off it soon.

Have you had an abnormal EEG? Like have they mentioned what sort of brain wave abnormalities you're having or what region of your brain they are coming from? Often they'll say they see "slowing" or they'll tell you the issue is in your temporal region, etc.

My EEGs were always normal, which is why it annoyed the hell outta me that they just treated me with a ton of drugs for epilepsy.

If someone had done extensive blood work on me years ago, they'd have seen I wasn't absorbing any vitamins.

You can get sublinguals over the counter too.

Something else, I looked at your profile, and if you're truthing, I was your age when I started having seizures.

I'm glad you have a doctor who is open to other treatments.

I feel 10000% better now I'm off seizure meds. They made me damn near narcoleptic.

So totally keep us posted.

One of my friends had a seizure while peaking after stupidly dosing 1300mg of DPH. He was fine after that, though, and didn't need to be taken to the hospital. Shit was fucking scary.

The one and only EEG I've ever had done was the day right after I posted this thread almost 2 years ago. It came back normal, not abnormal. That was also true with the CAT scan they put me through in the hospital on the day of the incident, and the MRI (no contrast) I had later that week. I found it to be incredibly annoying to have to pay for all of these imaging tests only to have them not give me a single piece of useful information.

My EEGs were always normal, which is why it annoyed the hell outta me that they just treated me with a ton of drugs for epilepsy.

I have always felt that way.

If someone had done extensive blood work on me years ago, they'd have seen I wasn't absorbing any vitamins.

The neurologist administered a blood test on me but told me no such thing, although I think vitamin absorption issues could also be a very real possibility for me. I may need more extensive blood work done. I most recently saw my neurologist on February 16th (I had a seizure the day before) and the only thing he had to say about my blood test was that he saw indications of collagen vascular disease, but didn't really offer a solution and didn't really explain if in fact it might have been tied with my seizures. I actually went the entire age of 21 without a single seizure, which is in fact quite remarkable. I've only been 22 for less than a month and already I've had 2 of those god damn things--the second time despite taking the meds as instructed. Something clearly has to be done that isn't being done now.

You can get sublinguals over the counter too.

Good to know.

Aight...my goal for right now is to do enough so that I can go at least 6 months without a seizure. I hope that isn't too unrealistic given my current condition.

i had a convulsion (not exactly the same as seizure) a couple of years ago and i had the same experience too, except i was on my bed when it happened and they didn't do a lumbar puncture because i did not have any signs of infection.

i became conciousness on the way to hospital and they probably asked whether i needed an oxygen mask. i was very confused though and thought i was a dream. then i was taken directly to a room where i was given a CT scan, and they said there were white spots inside my brain, but they couldn't tell whether it was just calcium deposits or a hermherrage.

it turned out i had a fatally low level of calcium in my blood.

I totally understand because all of mine were the saaaaame way.

And be careful if they do decide to do anything WITH contrast. I'd had like 5 over the years, no issues.

3 weeks ago I had another (unrelated to seizures, chick problems ) and I had a reaction to the dye. Went into shock and almost died. Major lameness.

Bring someone with you if they ever tell you that you're having one with contrast and go to the ER if you feel your throat closing up/can't breathe.

Have you tried to see a cardiologist? Like has anyone ever looked at your heart to make sure it's nothing like that?

It took them years to sort anything out with me, I know how damn annoying it is--especially being so young.

When you're 25 sitting in a room with a ton of people in their 80s, you're just like "wtf???why do I have all these issues when I am so young???"

Aight...my goal for right now is to do enough so that I can go at least 6 months without a seizure. I hope that isn't too unrealistic given my current condition.

I know that deficits in any vitamin and mineral can cause neurological issues. I was completely in shock when they told me I wasn't absorbing any vitamins, because I've always been a little bit of a health nut. I've always taken vitamins and eaten well.

Turned out I just needed MORE vitamins.

I only had a fraction of what I should have had for my B vitamins in my system, my DR said I was lucky because that can put you in a coma.

I googled it when I got home (because if it's on the internet , it's true!!!) and sure enough, I found article after article saying b vitamin deficiencies can cause seizures.

You stay on them! Don't let them keep throwing meds at you, don't let them tell you it's all in your head. Get this shit taken care of while you are young.

So are you all ironed out now? Did increasing your calcium intake fix it?

And I'm not anti medication by any means. I just got annoyed I took them for years, without ever having a test that showed epilepsy, to be told years later I never had it all along and some blood work coulda saved me tons of drama.

The thing with seizures is that tons of shit can cause them, besides epilepsy.

Hitting puberty can cause them, hormones can cause them.

Hitting your head (bad accidents) can cause them.

Hopefully we can all be cured and we won't need a seizures club in the C&C forum.

I've never had a convulsion seizure, or a grand mal, which are the most dangerous.

I tend to go blank and stop responding to anyone (absence seizure) and then the worse ones end up with me on the ground unconscious.

I have hurt myself pretty badly when passing out, which sounds kinda impossible, but you gotta think about it, you go out cold, and you don't have time to brace yourself. Last time I was sitting on a bench at a party, and I fell head first into the ground.

Totally hot.

I've been told you can't actually swallow your tongue/bite it, whatever, during a grand mal but that if you witness someone having one, don't touch them, just clear the area around them.

I've never really came close to swallowing my tongue, ever...I just bite the fuck out of it and most of it becomes sore. There one was only one time I didn't do that and that was in December 2010--when I had that seizure the day after my shrooms + drinking night.

If you actually read my first post, I didn't say that the seizure was definitely caused by the high level of heat--I said it was probably the case. A year later in 2011, I didn't get any heat-induced seizures, but I'm sure I was at risk for them.

NYC gets very hot during the summer. Not Georgia hot or Arizona hot, but still swelteringly hot enough that you'd be smarter staying home as much as possible, and I've seen the high levels of heat here (particularly in the subway system) causing some people to faint onto the tracks, which is part of why I try not to go all the way to the edge of the platform to see if the train is coming.

At 5 hours ago, II2none wrote: Why didn't you take anything fluid to hydrate yourself?

Jumping the gun a little, aren't we?

I drink more water than anyone else I know.

Also SevenSeize, I haven't seen a cardiologist yet but I'll have to bring up the possibility of that too during my next internist appointment. If I need a referral, I'll probably get one. I think if I actually had epilepsy, there would be something obvious in my EEG, MRI and CAT scan and the anticonvulsant I'm on would work as it should. My neurologist though didn't seem to want to hear any alternative treatment suggestions that didn't involve medication--he's in at least his 70s and said to me, "If you have two or more seizures, you need to be on anticonvulsants--period." I truly hope I don't get sent in for a an MRI with contrast because a potentially bad reaction to gadolinium is something I've always been worried about too.
