Biggest and worst choice made in my life so far. As a Python (Python 3.x) hobbyist, I'd say this piece of SHIT is apple's tool of attracting idiots to fund their so called 'innovative' development.
No open source, iOS4 (luckily I returned it and jailbroke to iOS 3.1.3) is shit. no terminal, shitty SSH apps, no nmap, no python, not a mobile hacking device at all.
Everything cost money, 50% apps are games.... Gahhhh, USELESS.
I can't return it anymore, I guess I'll have to wait for the next jailbreak. It seems like apple and steve jobs is getting idiots and fucked up apple fan boys to think a so 512 MB 1GHz A4 is going to take over the netbook market.... ooooo.... WRONG !
Just watch Apple, Prepare for your dreams to be overrun by a 1.6GHz atom, 2-4GB RAM HP Slate !
Open source (Red hat) ftw. I used to hate Ballmer, Now I HATE JOBS TOO
(And for those who say you can't compare OS'es, WRONG. just because this thing is a damn Darwin based on a BSD. It does not make a difference )

I did, But when I connected to Itunes(I had to, Rhythmbox can't sync and if I wanna transfer songs, SSH in I go)...
Apple somehow injected some arbitrary code and killed my acf2 services, also modified some directories as I went into it. plus, It killed Cydia

Restore, sync up, and re-jailbreak.

I have an iPod Touch. I like it. I mean, it seems like a lot of my peers get iPod Touches purely for the apps that they can get on them, but I use mine moreso for the convenience of music storage.

sorry, I mean Itunes is easier than SSH. I am running Fedora 12 kernel 2.6 141 dual booted OEM XP via Grub on a AAO
It's -> APPLE<- 's evil shitheads that stopped signing 3.1.x firmware so that only iOS4 can be restored. I am fucked.
sigh*
itunes was easier for transferring songs, BUT IT WAZ A TRAP

SHSH blobs yes, BUT it doesn't work. I'm fucking unlucky that I've got the latest MC version, which it has bootrom protection and some apple crap that prevents users from messing w/ the system. LIKE SERIOUSLY, I will build Android on this thing If I can
And VNC sucks. Vee-en-cy did work but its only from Fedora to ipod, must be over a router so DNS and Domains are valid. ( I haven't learned fully how to get my ipod to sync with my wifi broadcast from the AAO, but o well)

I hope you realize that the Touch was invented for 12 year old faggots who have rich parents.
Also, Jobs is a nazi. So don't expect something good.

Yeah, But its about cash, THEY ARE addicted to cash, Like for example I hate Gates, But at least he gives his cash to those in need in third-world countries in Africa. (I don't like Ballmer thou for sticking his fucking head in the open-source world, speaking of OpenSUSE... eh-hmm)
Like you see, fucking steve jobs gives you What He Thinks What You Want, NOT, what you really want.
for example, ipod/ipad... multitask? no, replace iOS w/ OSX at least? no, camera? no, SD card? no VGA-out? no, can I run full IDE's like eclipse and Padre? NO !!! EXPENSIVE? YES.
Like Macs and Apple is just one fucking Unix evolved outta BSD. it calls itself 'World's most advanced OS' while I say at least 50% of its users aren't even interested in squeezing the juice out of the machine. Like it's becoming a fashion thing. Machines are aren't and shouldn't be FASHIONABLE.
Apple learns this, get people to buy their shit. then lock them in

I'll say no more. I am getting suck of it. HOPE JOBS DIE and Let the open-source world take over. (preferably Red Hat, In my dreams).
I am getting fucking sick of commercialized software companies like apple. Piece of SHIT !! If It did ever took care of it's customers wants and desires then I don't care. But the fucking thing is, Apple convinced tons of mindless idiots and established a armada of fucked up fan-boys to defend its so useless, expensive, and so called 'revolutionary' products and software.
Like Open source is so much better. I can do whatever I want with my system. change/ reverse-engineer programs to function the way I wanted to. I've done that and I am doing it all the time. FUCK APPLE, SERIOUSLY

Redsnow and Blackra1n dose NOT work with the MC version. Hope I clarified that.
I have tried using newer, command-line based cracking, but it dosen't work.

Just a thought: Do your programming shit on your computer. If you bought an iPod touch to PROGRAM it using python, then you sir, are a fucking idiot.
The so called "idiots" that buy iOS devices don't buy them to crack them open; They don't know how and don't care either.
If you want to create apps for your IPod so badly, fork over the $99 for the developer program. Cracking open the iOS software is not part of Apple's agreement, and they'll actively break your shit if they find out you're doing that.
I come and go. Sometimes I say stupid shit. I'll regret this post when I look back at it next year.

I love open source software, but it will probably never take off because companies like Microsoft and Apple will stop it from happening. Open source software just isn't advertised and many people don't even know about it or trust it.
Sadly, people don't care about reverse engineering and customization, they just want the windows to have transparency effects and they want the button to bounce when they click on it.
Its weird how Apple claims to support open source software. I think they're just trying to appeal to everyone hoping that they can profit.

Companies also love open source software, because they can copypasta code without fear of legal repercussions or massive costs of man-hours to write a particular piece of software. Most of the man-hours put into OSS are from normal people like you and me, and companies love that since we're not on their payroll.
People don't care about reverse engineering and customization because they want their computer to "just work". They're not programmers, hackers, tweakers, or tinkers, like most of us on Newgrounds. Consumer electronics are designed to "just work", especially Apple electronics.
Apple does support open source software. Although most of their software isn't open, there are a few exceptions. Mac OS X, Safari, and Xcode all have open source components.

You can't "copypasta" open source software and sell it. Projects based on open source software have to be released under a license that gives the end user the same freedom.
People don't care about reverse engineering and customization because they want their computer to "just work". They're not programmers, hackers, tweakers, or tinkers, like most of us on Newgrounds. Consumer electronics are designed to "just work", especially Apple electronics.
They can still provide options for those who like to tinker and program.
Apple purposely makes their computers impossible for people to repair without specialty tools, so you pretty much have to send your computer in to Apple if something breaks. Same thing with the software, system folders and programs are hidden from the user and sometimes hard to manipulate. You should be allowed to do whatever you want with your own product, after all, you payed for it.
Apple does support open source software. Although most of their software isn't open, there are a few exceptions. Mac OS X, Safari, and Xcode all have open source components.
That's good, I just think they could do better and allow more freedom with their other software. See above ^

Anyone smart enough to post probably realized by now I develop on my fedora and I only execute things like simple algorithms and handy python programs. I DO NOT FUCKING program on the ipod (although I could, I'd probably stumble across syntactical/ fundamental flaws as all there is is only a text editor)
My original intent was to use my touch as a DMZ between free wifi and my linux box. And since MAC/IP addresses are so easily spoof-able thru ifconfig, It will probably take some time before I get caught/blacklisted. And plus, If my ipod gets compromised, I don't care as it's only half-a-OS and not where my important files are. (I can't anymore because apple shitheads stopped signing 3.1.x and 3.2.x PLUS, great port-scanning tool. (Yes, by now you should realized that i am a noob in network security. I can barely secure my SSH connections and often I depend on ppl's help =)

Yes indeed very sad truth. Apple do claim itself to be half open-source (M$ has it's own version of MS open source too)
But I bet Apple WILL SUE YOUR PANTS OFF, if you reverse-engineered the damn OS X snow leopard for example and made it your own.
Compare this to the commercial RHEL, and you will see that there are variations of system (even 100% backward binary compatibility, which means anything developed in RHEL and or the deviation can be run natively each other). One example of this is CentOS. Basically a community-sponsored version of RHEL with all the red hat logos removed.
Like people are just addicted to cash and patent en-crumbled software are just shit. It allows them to sell stinky shit that are like 4 years old with a nice and shiny price tag.

Oh sorry, For those who doesn't know, I am on a 3.1.3 un-tethered. Just waiting for some loop hole in apple's fucking polices to happen so I can fix my acf2 services and get Cydia working again.
Like this world is just so fucked up. Everyone wants power. A man with power wants even more power. *sigh. Not one person out their in the business world put people and kindness before cash and wealth.
OK I'll say no more. Hope all u viewers get it and DO NOT support FASCIST COMPANIES LIKE APPLE

I personally don't see a problem with the iOS 4 software. I'm running an iPod Touch 2G with iOS 4, and it runs perfectly normal, just like the v3.1.3 software I had a few months ago. The only difference I'm seeing is better graphics and more features.

OMG * Drops Jaws *....
You've been ... pffftt ... where were you ... mars?
iOS 4 is nothing but a piece of shit. Functionality-wise, same as iOS 3.1.x /3.2.x. And for apples technologically discriminative, or should I say racist in a way technological-wise shitheads, provide at least multitasking for only the iphone 4 and not the ipod 2g or 3g, or ...etc. Not to mention, all they've done was fixed up some fundamental exploits so the iOS can no longer, at least for now, be jailbroken.
I am guessing you are one example of apple's armada idiots who are stupid enough to defend apple's policies in raping the software/hardware industry.
for example, jobs said flash player was crappy and shit and HTML5 is better while over 95% interactive content on the web is based on flash. I've done some basic flash 2 years ago. For you apple fan-boys, You CANNOT compare HTML5 to Flash, HTML5 is a video standard, and Flash is a totally different thing. yes, .flv does suck , but Flash itself doesn't. like you don't have to learn C and write ultra-fast/efficient code to make games
Apple is doing this just so they can profit from their so-called App store where everything is built and compiled from the ground up, it cost money and most free apps are just short demos and lite that have ads all over them. see, If you wanna play games, you could just GO ON NEWGROUNDS AND PLAY. Lots of people will love that, but NOOOOO...... APPLE SAID SO, Jobs wants to kill flash, Jobs wants to kill netbooks with his improvised and SHIT i-tampon(pad). Apple is pure Nazi.
not to mention Internet TV, Shall I go on?

lol. Rockbox is epic win. I remember I had a sansa 8GB. pretty good player, but it was v2 so its hardware is protected and its firmware could not be manipulated. but anyways, that thing went into the laundry and now it barely works, old stuff.
But with the original ipod yes. Rockbox entirely owned it. My Java friend used to compile old Pokemon games on his ipod classic after breaking it with Rockbox. terminal works too but hell I don't know how typing works. I say is all .sh scripts pre-written then executed. Not sure what the kernel is, but I bet is some shit from apple.
