Im still not confident enough yet to color any of my sketches, but you seem to be ok at it.
I use to struggle alot with human anatomy, but ive been getting better.
Keep drawing and and the technique will eventually take care of itself.

I think this is hilarious.

I like the color choices you make. You could use some help with anatomy and composition (but most of us can as well). Keep practicing and you will always be improving.

Art101 has a list of threads you can check out! Some of them are character based and some are not, but I'm sure you can find an idea for characters while skimming through a couple of threads.
A few quite good ones are:
Art Forum Battle Royale
Draw your favorite video game character
Draw the person above you
This weeks CHOW
and
I'll draw you character my style
If that doesn't work you can try your hand at drawing someone from this random character generator or from this slightly more detailed random character generator
Hope that helped :P

burn and dodge tools, yeah dont use those, everything else is fine to use, im intrigued whats wrong with blur as long as its not overused

I don't like the blur tool either really. It's messy and obvious. A brush tool with lowered fill or opacity can give you the same effect in a more graceful manner. I use colour dodge regularly actually, but in the layer settings not the actual dodge tool. Although I did use the dodge tool in my bioshock pic also. I think it can be useful very useful for adding lighting effects and such, but not as your main tool for shading and highlights.

I never noticed that...Any really the only excuse is that I was going for speed on this drawing and kinda just throwing things together in a timely manner.

It's overused is what I'm saying lol
it looks all smudged up. You always want your color to be as crisp as possible :)
