With 5 billion years of time, we would probably develop technology powerful enough to leave this solar system altogether. The only problem with the Y-Chromosome fading theory is that the rest of our genes will change by then; we'd have evolved into something entirely different several times over, so the Y chromosome would become redundant anyway.

Holy crap...now that i think about it....the sun won't go supernova, it will just be a red giant and swallow Earth, but i just realised....the sun is also going to do that in 18 billion years too!

18 billion years? You do know that in 4 billion years the Sun will explode and the entire Earth will explode? Of course, by then we would have hopefully gone to another planet. By the time that happens we would've probably developed the technology that allows us to live on another solar system or maybe even another galaxy cause after 5 billion years of technological improvement I think we can do that.
