4.07 / 5.00 10,082 ViewsI just posted some of my art on my profile, and I'm trying to see what people think of it. I figured putting it up in the forums would help draw some attention to it and get the comments rolling. I've included a piece of my work to get you interested. To see the rest, visit my page. I welcome all comments, so long as they aren't just bashing my work with no helpful tips with it. I really want to improve my work if it's not up to snuff by the talented artists' standards.
Please note that not all of my artwork is like the one I've posted. I usually draw anime people. This one is a Ravager, an animal I made up. It's not my best work. It's nowhere near being my best work. It's just a PG picture I drew and thought would be a good start to get some constructive criticism.
Thanks for your time!
Stephy
PS: Please check the art tab on my page and check out my other works! Let me know how I'm doing!!

you want us to see your works, post em here.
were not big on being told to go places... You know, rebellious teenage phase
Don't pull the rebellious teenager card on me. It won't work. I'm one, too. And i really don't want to have to post them all on the thread... That would mean that I'd have to re-size everything all over again, wait forever for them all to upload, write definitions for them all... It's just easier to visit my page. Besides, they're better quality there.

This one creature is called the Ravager, It does bare a slight resemblence to XII from Final Fantasy 7. The work you did on the fur looks pretty neat but I think the characters you did on the wing just need a little definition.

I like when this happens; new person shows up, think they know everything, then learns a couple things about where they are at and finally feels like a fool.
These forums have a automatic resizing. Try to upload your picture and most of the time it gets re-sized to fit, even reducing the file size most of the time.
When you post a picture you can post a link with it to higher resolution versions like in the portal or the dump. This Part is covered in the Rules, you haven't broke any yet, but it is hinted that we like the art to be posted in the art forum.
And to top it off.... I haven't been a teenager for a few years now.
So... wanna try this again?
well the art itself looks very "neopets" to me... no offense.
yeah if your too lazy to post em in the thread im too lazy to go check for em, i mean why should i?
the picture itself, colored pencils, very childish looking, obviously influenced by digimon or pokemon, something like that by the looks of it, very boring and bland as a whole

Holy fuck. I've been here for more than half a year, I've posted countless objects, and I've resized them all manually.
This is the first I've heard of that. Damn it. That'll make things easier.
And OP, I think it's a little cheesy, to be honest. No offense. Its paws are also way too big. I do kind of like how the wings look. I don't have much else to say that Kinsei hasn't already said.
Oh, and Argile, I think you mean Red XIII.
Anatomy issues, boring poses, foreshortening errors, lack of shading.
Don't feel like giving a proper critique, not in the mood. Post more stuff in the thread and I might go into more detail later.
Like I said, this is far from my best work. It's not even my usual subject matter. And obviously, nobody likes it... No wonder why I don't usually draw stuff like this. So... How about I try something else... Digitally colored. So it's not so childish...

Anatomy needs some work. Very Disproportionate. the head really makes me think she is malformed.
Line work really needs to be smoothed and amped up. it's too thin.
I hate thick lines... They look so cheap. So American. I was going for the anime character look, not a realistic one.

Even anime has much thicker line than that.
Don't go for a single thickness though, it gives off a mechanical feel. you need to practice line weight so it looks more fluid and hand crafted. You only want the same thickness on lines when you are making technical drawings and some machines
As for color, you have a good start, but you really need to push out your Highlights and Shadows
*Sigh* So much for being talented... I knew it wasn't true. And I'm reluctant to go deeper with my shadows and highlights because every time I try, it looks horrible. The obvious streaks of burn and dodge... It's impossible to correct without adding more garbage to the dump... Ugh...

Dodge and burn are never a why to go when shading. From time to time they have their place in the art world, but not often.
your better off actually building a color pallet and working from that.
But, it takes practice.
Crap... I've been doing art since I was in 7th grade, everything I know has been pretty much self taught. I've spent hours upon hours reviewing tutorials, looking up references.... And my computer graphics teacher is the one who's gotten me used to the burn and dodge tools. *Sigh* It's really, really hard to find good instructions on how to do this. I guess that's what happens when you go to a small town school with a bunch of talentless hicks... Everyone's told me that my art is so good, that I should go professional. I told them all that I'd never make it. Today, my point has been proven.

hey I went to a small hick town as well. But thats hardly an excuse.
Tutorials are plentiful online, Here is one of my favorite sites. Not to mention a strong community like this one will help you out tons if you want.
I want all the help I can get. I see so many awesome pieces of art on here, and I'm so envious of everyone's talents. I try to do it myself and, well... You see what happened.

well, here is how you start, Post up your WIPs and ask for help and correction, we will help... or atleast I will... it seems to be what I do.
be kind, respectful and things should work out. take our advice and practice a lot.
we tend to give better feed back than the portal anyway
Thanks. And I already knew of tutorialized.com. That and thedesignworld.com.

I couldn't double post. It yelled at me when I was going to tack on a thank you in a second message...
But as for more art... Have at this one.

You can't make two posts within one minute of eachother. Just let it cool down.
This is an improvement, I think. The wood texture, the mat she's on, the hair, her hands, and her feet all look really good. Your anatomy is a bit better on this one as well. Her cheek, however, comes in too far, and her ass looks quite strange, most likely because of the lines between it and her legs, which makes it look detached from them.
I know I'm not some amazing artist, but I can give some input on you getting discouraged:
I live in a small military town in the south. I know how it sucks to be in an area void of art and to have to teach yourself. What I've done is completely scrutinize everything I'm doing in every drawing I make, and I look up lots and lots of art on the internet to take in what I like and how people are doing things better than me. Tutorials can help, surely, but they shouldn't be the only thing you do in trying to get better. As well, you always want to be pushing at your imagination to try and make things your way instead of going ways that you see other things in.
ie: anime. I have no problem with anime, but people who start out there tend to have a hard time adjusting to other kinds of artistic approach.

Lies ^
I see what you mean by her cheek coming in too much. I never noticed that until now. :-/ The ass too... As for everything else, I spent a good couple of days working on it and took tons of pictures of my hands for reference. Hands are my weak point, and hearing good things about them makes me feel pretty damn good. I'm not gonna lie. =3
That being said, What do people think of this one? I spent 1 day drawing it, 3 more to shade it in. This is an older piece of mine that I drew when I was still in high school. AND I AM WELL AWARE THAT THE HANDS SUCK.

Im so tired of seeing anime on newgrounds. I don't know that many people who are impressed by it.
Can we see some realistic stuff?

It would be far more impressive if you could draw a shitty awkwardly shaped piece of shitty cake.

Same thought crossed my mind.
Reminds me of one or two people I've come across who draw shitty things in pencil and color in crayon then act like they're better than digital artists because their work is "real".
Honestly, guys, saying "it's anime, boohoo" isn't constructive. At all.

I've been trying to come up with a nice way of saying just that.
People who want to draw anime should be able to draw anime, just as people who want to draw on paper should be able to do that. There isn't anything wrong with it, it's just a certain stylization.
So, if you have an elitist attitude; you can shove it. Thanks.
