When you were growing up back in the day, there wasn't much to do at home, except maybe play video games. Now for those of you who played videos games and utterly started loving it after your first gaming experience. You were probably playing Atari or Nintendo in the 80's or 90's.
But as the years went on, you were growing up. As you grew up you started learning and caring for the more important things in life. And soon you would be in college, working your butt off. Would you seriously have time to play more video games? And after that, you would be working and raising a family.
The point is when you grow older, you start letting go of your childhood and all video games you played and the good times you had with them.
Now if you're all grown up right now, or just over 18. Have you already given up on video games and focusing on life? I for one, hope to never give up my gaming life since I grew up with it, but I know I have to one day. For those of you still under 18 will you hope for gaming in your life to never stop like me?

I actually had the same thought myself when I was playing GTA Vice City after it was out for a few months, but it was not me so much growing up but Rather I needed to give the game a break I practically played through it every night when I came home from school.
But Yeah i see how it would lead so much as to a addiction.
Who keeps telling people that growing up means giving up joy and adventure? I reject that idea of "growing up". Having a few more responsibilities may mean reducing the amount of time spent on games, or putting things like work and family before games, maybe even limiting the kinds of games you buy so that your children don't see sex and hear cluster F bombs before they can understand what's going on, but it doesn't mean giving video games up.
You can still play with your friends, maybe even your GF/Wife. And there's nothing preventing you from playing alone either. So yeah, "growing up" doesn't mean stop playing video games, sure, you might change a lot on how you play or which games you play, but you'll probably still play video games.
Probably not all the time though.
shit's amazing
Games are my life. I grew up with games, and they're staying with me. And since I'm planning a career in game programming, games aren't going anywhere from my interests.
I grew up with games; I'll grow old with games.

I used to think that video games were a big part of my life, and that I'd keep playing regardless of how old I was, but lately I've just stopped playing them, and I have no intention of playing anytime soon either. It's one of those things you either grow out of, or you keep doing it because you enjoy it.
My great aunty played Duke Nukem up until she passed on. I intend to carry on that tradition.

I work at a Blockbuster, and it's really made me start to wonder. Why is it okay for these adults to buy $100+ Blu-Ray players and rent mindless action flicks, horror films, etc. for their weekend fun, but it's not okay for other adults to buy $100+ videogame consoles and then buy games for their weekend fun.
Escapism is escapism, art is art. I'm not saying it's for everyone. I mean, I personally don't like horror films at all. I don't expect everyone to fall in love with videogames for the same reasons. That being said, videogames are entertaining, intriguing, and (despite popular belief) highly social. Are they the most intellectual media available on the market? No, not yet, maybe not ever. That being said, I went out and saw A-Team a few weeks ago and loved it. Call of Duty's single player is just as mindlessly intense. If one is acceptable, the other one might as well be to.
I might one day stop playing videogames, but as of now I don't see that happening. As long as there are good games to play and great people to play them with, I'll enjoy them as is, and maybe the world will begin to accept them too. We're already on the right track.. I honestly don't know a single guy that doesn't like videogames now-a-days.
Message me if you ever want to play SFIV or BlazBlue on XBOX Live!
I also enjoy Quake Live.
Since when has there been an upper age limit on gaming?
My dad is in his 50s, and is downstairs playing Half-Life 2 right now, and probably plays more video games than I do. PC FPS only, but still, a shit load of them.
My uncle, who's in his 40s, also plays loads of games, mostly on PS3.
I am 22 have a Full Time Career as a Construction Superintendent. I have a Fiancee and a 2 yd Daughter. We have our own place and I have a Good Car. I fight MMA and do a ton of outdoors stuff. Still through all that rasing a family, work, and hobbys I am still a Gamer and always will be. i have at least 2 hours at night after the kids in Bed that I play my Games.
I could not give up gaming, I have been doing it since I was 3. Its a part of who I am and I wont change because I love Gaming.

So OP didn't do his research. Myself being 21, going on 22 have yet to give up gaming and see no end to it. Pretty much all my friends game. That link I provided has a survey that says the average age of a gamer is 35. So how is that giving up gaming once you hit 18?
Just because 13 year olds who can't shut the hell up on Xbox live are what you hear the most does not mean that everyone there is under 18. If that was the case, why make M rated games aimed at ages 17+? It'd be pointless (even if a shitload of gamers who buy these M titles are 13 that's a discussion for another day).
Forgot to mention that the survery also says (In the US at least) that male gamers 17 and younger only make up 18%
I hate this argument. "I don't play games cause I grew up"
When you were growing up back in the day, there wasn't much to do at home, except maybe play video games.
Mine was vice versa. I had plenty to do at home, such as lego (though that is an entirely different topic)
Video games came later into my life which is probably why I still enjoy playing them even though I should be thinking of other things (job, post secondary)
I don't think I can grow up as it were
I'm 24. Fuck that shit, I still play games.
I'm in the process of moving into a new house now with one of my best friends who is my age, and we are pretty excited for our soon-to-be gaming nights. Hell, the only reason we aren't currently staying at our new place is because we haven't had cable or internet turned on yet, which we are hoping to get done tomorrow. I definitely would like to have some lan parties going on here, especially when SC2 releases since I have some friends who were big SC fans.
Gaming doesn't end when you grow up. In a lot of ways it gets better, since we have our own places and can do whatever we please. As long as you don't fuck up your priorities, like lose your job because you play WoW obsessively or don't buy groceries because you spent too much money on games.
I've been refurbished and reissued, prepackaged and precooked, decontaminated and deloused, but I still smell, sound, look and feel like shit.
New to the video game forums?

This. I love splurging on Special Editions and shit, but I have my priorities. My car is my number 1 priority right now, but I hope to own my own place and raise some kids. Gaming will still probably be my main hobby throughout life.

Im 18 and I don't plan on giving them up any time soon. I don't see why people think that playing video games means you can't focus on other things in life. It's a hobby. Some of my friends still play for local football teams and such, yet you never hear people asking them if they think their hobby is interfering with other aspects of their life.
Another way of looking at it is this; When most people are sitting at home watching TV with nothing else to do, I'll be playing video games with nothing else to do. It's just a pass time and I don't see why people feel the need to "grow out of it".

Maybe one day it'll happen, but not as long as they keep making games that I'm interested in. I play games everyday to some extent and still find time to have a full time job and go out with friends. The only thing I'm missing actually are friends I know in real life who are as interested in games as I am as most of the people I play with online are people I met online.
It can actually depend on what job you have. My friend has a job where he stays home for work and can get off anytime he wants to play videogames (Of course he doesn't stay off his job for the entire day).
Dreams with the concept of prosperity and happiness are premonitions, only then you can decide next.
I don't think i'll ever quit gaming. I love it, as long as they continue to release games that interest me I'll keep playing them.
Another thing, gaming allows me to de-stress a lot of the time, unwind and just zone out. Basically just chill. I need that time or else I'll go insane.
I (was) in college, I have a girlfriend, and I have an internship, but I still have plenty of time for video games. I dunno, maybe it's just my short work hours. @_@
I'm 19 years old, and I will never give up gaming. Even as I grow older, find a mate, and possibly raise some kids, I will still find time to go to Fighting Game Tournaments and kick some ass. Hell, right now I need to find a steady job and move out of my parent's house, yet I am STILL raising money to go to East Coast SF tourneys, and go to next year's EVO.
I will never stop gaming, no matter what happens.
