3.93 / 5.00 4,634 ViewsI'm referring to Comic Book Guy's "Worst episode ever" and Ralph Wiggum's "Fun toys are fun". People have been saying variations on these quotes to the point where it's annoying. They say "Best/Worst [noun] ever" and "[adjective] [noun] is [same adjective]". Say something different, people, and please don't use either of those to describe this thread because it's bland and predictable.
I was unaware that the redundancy meme came from The Simpsons...
Wow, I didn't even know those were simpson quotes. I thought they were something someone just made up and it took off in different forms.
"worst [noun] ever" Isn't a simpsons thing. It's just a fucking sentence for gods sake.

Problem?
Worst thread ever.
I mean, lame thread is lame.
Seriously now, I thought those expression were very common before the Simpsons already.
It's not really fair to dis anything the Simpsons have used, cause frankly, the Simpson already used everything.

Worst Episode Ever?! Why would anybody quote THOSE lines? Those definitely aren't the funniest lines from that episode.

If I offer to help you in a post, PM me to get it. I often forget to revisit threads.

I'm pretty sure it came from Comic Book Guy. It's even his catchphrase to say "Worst [noun] ever".
To the people saying "d'oh" and "eat my shorts", the OP is talking about phrases from the Simpsons that are overused be actual people outside of the Simpsons.

I don't think so. See the aforementioned Urban Dictionary link and Know Your Meme.

Urban dictionary is not always a reliable source and Know your Meme tries to find the earliest use in popular culture. However, the phrases surely existed well before that.

Isn't complaining about it the same thing as saying "worst ever"?

You don't even want to know
I can understand the XY is X circular logic meme as originating from The Simpsons, but saying something is the best or worst ever, even if it is a popular Simpsons' quote cannot be credited to The Simpsons on the grounds that it's just a damned good way to express your opinion.
If you disagree, just think about how long people have been using expressions like, "best / worst day ever". That falls under the suposed definition of the meme, even though it's been in popular use since before The Simpsons even first aired.
Memes have literally never been funny. Like come up with something original. Is there honestly anyone who laughs when someone uses one?

But those are funny. The ones in the OP are not.

Maybe they're not reliable, but you have any proof the phrases go back before their respective episodes from 1997 and 1999?

You're wrong. Although I didn't know the other one was from the Simpsons...i thought it was common knowledge that the worst ever was. If you've ever seen peope say it...it's usually written like this: "worst.thread.ever." to illustrate the way comic book said it, as if every word was it's own sentence.

Alright, I'll give you inserting awkward punctuation, but the argument is whether or not simply saying something is the worst or best ever is a Simpson's quote on the grounds that it was the popular catchphrase of one of the characters.

I am actually not a "Simpsons" fan myself (I did, however, watch the movie and really liked it) but I heard that Bart only said that once. I am surprised that Ralph Wiggum's quote about toys is becoming that popular. I think that the more popular thing he says is about the banana going down the bus. Come on, that is funnier.

He says it loads of times over the course of the series.

Everything that comes out of Ralph's mouth is fantastically quotable and deserves to be as popular as "Fun toys are fun!".
