Seriously, who gives a fuck if you can solo at 100 mph, it's jack shit boring to listen to. Oh wow, you can play that song faster :O That must make it good music : ) OH MY LORD, look how hard this is to play on guitar hero, this is clearly the superior music genre guys.

No..just no.

Musical technicality =/= Good music

Talkers are doing something. Beauties are being something. Which isn't bad, I just I don't know what it is they're being. It's more fun to be with people who are doing things.

It's all about taste. I agree with you somewhat, some bands that are technical do get a tad dull, but just because they are technical or play fast does not automatically rule them out as good musicians or bands. My favorite players and bands play technical but do it well by making it catchy and full of texture and depth. Over simplified songs (like cookie cutter pop music on the radio) lacks any talent or interest. There are some bands that overdo it with time signatures and stuff, but there is amazing technical music.

I'd thought i'd just through this in there but, speed =/= technicality

The work, which becomes a new genre itself, will be called...

Playing a fast isn't as easy as you put it. Take Jimmy Page, for example, he can play fast, but it takes a lot of concentration to keep going, unless practiced over and over.

But strumming A fast as possible, yeah, no.

What a shame, Mister Jensen.
I never asked for this, Mister Denton.

As one of my buddies and I talked about, it's more or less a matter of preferance. We agreed, however, that it takes more skill to know how to play an instrument WELL, play it on through a solo and break it off smoothly than it does to straight up rip the chords to forty hells. Some take to shredding at gazillion miles an hour to be their artform while others prefer to solo it, break it down, and keep riding the song out.

Although...some bands tend to speed their crap up during recording and then when they perform live, just down right suck.

With chops like his? What a beast. My favorite technical metal guitarist would have to be Muhammed Scuimez. He fucking tears his guitar a new asshole on every song and sings at the same time.

Alright...as a person looking for new music, may I ask who Muhammed Scuimez is? or, whatever band he may perform with? I'd like to know so I can contribute more to the conversation without being ignorant to it...(not saying anyone is)

No problem. He's the lead guitarist/singer/founder of the technical death metal band Necrophagist. If you wanna know anymore PM me because I don't wanna derail the thread. But anyways that band is an example of listenable and talented technical music.

This.

What music you enjoy and what music is enjoyable or not is all a matter of opinions. All the people on here (mostly metalheads) claiming that one genre is better than another is sooo stupid. It is like trying to prove one color is better than another which would be impossible.

having speed and soloing skill is a talent in and of itself, being able to write a song that people will enjoy listen to is a different skill entirely. although they overlap alot.

but having skill isn't a bad thing; i'm sure that if Jimmy page felt like it he could easily write a Clash-esque punk song, but can they write a Zeppelin like blues / folk rock song? generally not.

being able to play alot of styles and with alot of speed are both extremely useful, you shouldn't make the appeal of your music technical skill alone but you shouldn't disavow it entirely.

=3 I iz metalhead.

But in honesty, despite being a metal head, I'm one whose 'taste' can change depending on mood. In my heart and soul I'm metal, but I've taken caution to make that not the ONLY thing I listen to. I also like...Jazz...Alternative Rock....Hard Rock....Classical music....Instrumentals...VG OSTs....J-Rock/Pop/Metal....Punk, Ska, crap man, you'd be surprised.

It's a matter of opinion indeed. I won't say 'one's better than the other' because it's based on:
A) Opinion (mine obviously stated)
B) Mood (which in truth is variable 1)
C) Life Situation (Variable 2)
D) Living situation (Variable 3)
and
E) Purpose (I.E - Working out, dancing, etc...)

All the variables are what change amongst us all, and as for opinions, we all have them and they either collide in unison or clash in hatred or discontentment.

But then you get someone like Aphex Twin who combines technicality with extreme creativity and imagination which produces sounds which have endured the test of time.

...what now?

He's an electrical engineer, qualified.
He's a renowned producer and genre-pioneer.
His music may sound like gobbledy-gook to some people but really it's carefully composed from scratch using a piano before modulating and synthesising notes and sounds.

It bugs me when someone just contradicts me without having a god damn valid reason.

How does any of that relate to technical ability on an instrument.

Are you fucking retarded or do you even know who I am talking about??

People on here piss me off.

Right here we go:

1. He plays electrical instruments. He builds his own machines from scratch for some tracks. He is a qualified electrical engineer. - TECHNICAL ABILITY IS FUCKING HIGH.

2. He is trained in classical piano which he uses to create tracks from scratch. He can read and write piano music. - TECHNICAL ABILITY IS FUCKING HIGH.

3. He has produced music outside his own genre. TECHNICAL ABILITY IS FUCKING HIGH.

Now piss off, I am not wasting any more breath educating you retards.

And you need to make a thread whining about this... Why? Yes there are lots of people now adays who play fast solos. If you're meaning fast as in Dragonforce fast, then slow it down about halfway, that's the actual playing speed. But anyways if you don't like fast solos, then find songs with slower solos, there solved your problem!

Does he play them? No, he programs them. No technical ability.

Every piano player can do this. No where near high technical ability.

Completely unrelated to technical ability.
