Okay, I was joking, the subject is Back to the Future / Time Travel.
No fan fiction, or so help me god!
Failure should push you until success can pull you.
Aww, it would have been funny to expand on this, but that would really verge on plagiarism. Such a tragedy.
I'll have to be...ORIGINAL!
*weeps*
I put the BS in BBS.

That's basically what we're aiming for. The problem is if the judges all have to deal with a dozen Back to the Future fanfics, it's going to get mind numbingly boring.

I'm envisioning incredible opportunities for funky chronology experiments.

Oh my, yes!

Try to keep it to your own work - we want original characters and concepts, because anyone can write fanfiction, using someone else's settings and characters. Look at Russell T. Davies, for example :P
Granted, we will borrow heavily from the genre and examples such as Back to the Future, Wells' The Time Machine, Bill & Ted, Quantum Leap, Dr. Who and so forth, but try to put your own original touches in, that's where the marks are. There is going to be a certain amount of cliche here, but I'm personally looking for people that use it to their advantage, as opposed to putting it in there for the sake of it.
With back to back competitions this gives me enough time to compete one last time. I finally conjured up a good idea last night after thinking about time related situations and theme for the entire day. I'll probably start writing this weekend sometime.
Good luck to everyone and I can't wait to read your stories.
Clarifying question: Are we disqualifying fanfiction, or are we just urging people not to submit it?

We are strenuously urging people not to submit it. Borrowing from one source can be considered plagiarism, while borrowing from many is normally considered research.

But are we disqualifying it?
2) There is both a writing club & and writing guild in the Clubs & Crews section which is there as an open forum for writers to post their work.
Isn't this a bit outdated?

No, but we will wear foggy goggles while reading their story as a handicap.
Well i was just checking out what people thought of fanfiction
ofcourse i'm gonna write something original;) i never intended to write fanfiction i just wanted to get the discussion started
Just a quick question: If I were to participate, where exactly would I submit it? Would I submit the story on this thread? or am I supposed to E-mail it or PM it?
Don't mind the fangs, Or the claws. Or the ears. And the eyes.

The Entries Thread, of course!
This doesn't need to be some super realistic piece does it?
And does it have to be someone from the present moving to the past or future?

No.
And does it have to be someone from the present moving to the past or future?
Try whatever you want; be as creative as you most possibly can.
I really am a question, where do we have to present our work fully completed?

I'll be entering something for this one.
I hate Sarah Palin.

That I know of, none of the other judges know Spanish. Unfortunately, given the informal status of the competition, only entries in English will be accepted.
preferably american but australian and the queens english wil also be accepted
But please any entries written before 1800 will be disqualified

It's open for interpretation. Perhaps someone from the future, coming to the present and being so out of place. Not many fictions have focused on that particular aspect at present.
At 7/5/10 01:10 AM, chistin wrote: the entry can be written in spanish?
Absolutely not - I don't read Spanish and since the forum is intended to be an English forum, I have no intention of learning a foreign tongue just to judge a piece. Sorry.

*facepalm*
i was told a maximum of 5000 words was allowed. my word count says it's 3, 159 words. however, the story itself, with spaces is 16, 819 characters. so the post wont fit. am i allowed to post in two parts? or am i only allowed one?

Use as many posts as needed, within reason. Note that after 4 posts, there is a mandatory waiting time before you can post in the thread. It is encouraged you keep it at 4 posts or less, otherwise, there is the possibility of your submission being broken up by other posts during your wait period. While this may or may not be a problem, it can be a potential headache getting everything together.
my story has two bloody enormous parts and one small part. enjoy :P
