Need Art Forum Reg's Input

Hello everyone. To start this off I want to say this was approved by two mods actually, so please do not leave any "this does not belong here" comments/replies.

Now, down to the business at hand. I am currently working on a RTS game that incorporates the different people on Newgrounds. There is going to be a couple of factions, or civilization if you prefer that term, that represent the different communities on Newgrounds. And one of them is going to represent the art forum/portal.

But in order to represent the different people on Newgrounds, I need to know what they think. So I am here asking for information from you guys about, well, you guys. :-)

What I need is simple. Each faction/civilization is going to have three heroes that it can call forth to help it's troops/units in various ways. I want these heroes to represent the most helpful, and most respected members of the art community. So what I need is for you to number your suggestions from one to three, and then list who you think is the best candidates to be represented as heroes of the art forum/portal.

So it will look something like this...

1. Nathaniel & Bryce Milburn
2. Laserkarl
3. JAZZA

Those are the three my artist/animator picked. But I wish to get a much larger and well rounded response from as many regs here in the art forum as possible.

There are some rules to consider before making your recommendations for candidates...

1. No mods or admins. They are already represented in the game.
2. Please recommend candidates that are often here. If someone has not been online in over six months, they probably wouldn't be the best candidate.
3. Please do not just nominate a friend because you are their friend. If your friend is super helpful and creates great art then by all means please nominate them. But just nominating them because you like them as a person doesn't really go with the idea of what the heroes are representing.
4. NO MODS!!!

I already did this in the audio forum a while ago and everyone thought it was a lot of fun actually. So I'm hoping the art community isn't THAT much different from our audio community in that aspect. ;-)

I'm looking for people who do frequent the art forum to some extent. But at the same time that is not the only criteria.

Basically I am looking for people who are helpful to others, and that do frequent the art forums/community here. And lastly they need to have some sort of art that is both liked and appreciated by people here in the art community.

Basically if you were to pick 3 people to represent the art community here on Newgrounds, who would it be?

Wait, so what faction exactly are we representing? The art forum or art as a whole on Newgrounds?
If it's art as a whole, some big, high-scoring people in the art portal who'd fit would be:

Dommi-Fresh
Lenkobiscuit
Rtil
Jouste
Hoboweasel
and a number more. I don't know which would be the best to pick, though.

If it's for the art forum:
M-Vero, J-Qb, and Kinsei01 would be my picks for the heroes, I guess. big-johnny13 would be a good nomination, too, since he's probably the most frequent regular in the forum.

Yeah, sorry, I had no idea who the top three for the portal would be. Seeing one of your earlier posts though, you can disregard the big list and just take the forum nominations at the bottom, which are M-Vero, J-qb, and Kinsei01.

dont post other peoples art, even if it is for a thread like this, has to be your own art for the start post, not magicaljamies, art PORTAL big hitters would be different for everyone, art forum regs youd have to stick around and decide for yourself, because again, its different for everyone

No mods = no mods period. Not trying to be difficult but the mods and admins have their own faction/civilization already and I am looking for non-mods for the other factions/civs.

That would be the artist/animator's art that was made for the game. He as the one who told me to use it because it is for the game. I don't have any drawing/artistic abilities. Plus it represents the game to have his art posted.

And the "its different for everyone" is why I am looking for a short list. Look at the audio forum example I posted. A lot of people had different picks. But between them all, and the pms people sent me, 5-6 people ended up rising to the top as the most nominated. From them I chose a final three.

And Shadman is more representative of the NG art community? He's a sick, sick man, and if you doubt that, go look through his work again. A huge chunk of it depicts rape and gore.
He may be a fruitful artist and I may respect what amount of skill he has and that he draws what he loves, but I don't think he represents us at all.
And because I expect someone to think, "well, porn is all over the portal", just note that I said nothing about Bizzarojoe.

Shad's a fantastic artist. Not ALL of his stuff is perverted. He's very active in the art portal! Not just submitting, but also leaving tons of reviews.

So considering my artistic ability is limited to stickmen in MS Paint, it would have been better to submit something like that instead of concept art made by the artist/animator I hired for the game? Even when Janie, the artist/animator for the game, told me to use this piece in this very thread?

Yea, rules are rules. But sometimes, just sometimes, it's ok to make an exception/bend them for the greater good of the situation. I didn't try to circumvent the rules by posting Jamie's art, I simply decided that in order to represent the game, and for people to take me seriously, that I would post a concept piece he made and approved of that way people would know this is a serious game in production.

Honestly, if I posted stickmen from MS Paint, which is the limit of my artistic ability, would you not also tell me, "Come back with better art you foolish child. This is not appropriate." I'm guessing you would.

And who would take the thread seriously if I did post my awful art? Everyone would just think, "Omg, noob game that won't go anywhere. *IGNORE*" The thought was that with a nice picture of a character in the game would stimulate a response of, "Hey, these guys are serious."

I specifically said not to nominate friends just because you are friends with them. Does that come into play? Of course it does. But at the same time, I'm hoping that people nominate those they find to be the most helpful, most knowledgeable, and the best artists overall. I'm not looking to see who has the most friends. I'm trying to find out the other things that I originally mentioned.

I'm not sure why everyone is having so much trouble understanding that. I've already done this in the audio forum and people found it fun and interesting to see who nominated who. It isn't that hard of a concept.

Sorry, I don't want to start an argument, but I'd just like to point out that his "reviews" are just about always comments on pieces he thinks are sexy, most of which are young girls. I don't think I've ever seen a comment that gave good critique out of him.
I'll stop. I guess, except for one or two of his pieces, I just strongly dislike Shadman's work.

Oh, and there's a HUGE difference between perverted and just plain sick. Newgrounds tends to be more the prior than the latter. A naked woman isn't nearly as bad as a woman who's being raped.

At first I was beginning to wonder if we were getting people nominated to be sacrificed to a dark god or something. but this is much more pleasant.

As for the selection process, I understand the mods are already being represented, but to be honest the Art Forum Mods are some of our best artist. well I guess as long as every one gets good solid screen time.

3. M-vero

these guys are always helpful to the community. I have seen Ash grow greatly in a very short time, Gumby experiment well with different styles and have some of the most wild ideas and Vero has always had pretty good comedy timing, a really stolid style, and good jokes over all.

No, because we are working as a team. We have four people on the team, and my position in the team requires me to do this part of the work, information gathering.

Truthfully by your logic this thread would be perfectly fine as long as he posted it instead of me, because it is his art. But this is my job in the team. I created the game conceptually, I'm in charge of gameplay design and unit creation, and information gathering. So Jaimie made me that picture for this thread, that way I would not be breaking the rules. Because the rules say I have to post some sort of art that is relevant to the thread.

If I had posted something I made, which would just be stickmen, it wouldn't be relevant and you would have told me it broke the rules and locked the thread. Do you see how I'm caught in a circle of "You are breaking the rules you noob!!!"

If I post anything I make it will be awful, and not relevant to the game nor thread. And supposedly by posting his art I'm breaking the rules as well. But to be honest we are working on the same team, and he made that pic for this. So I don't see how it is as big of a deal that everyone is making it out to be.

I'm done explaining myself and the purpose of this thread. If you aren't logical enough to figure out what it is I'm looking for, then your opinion wouldn't be worth validating anyways. Because obviously the concept is just way over your head, or you are just trying to nit pick this thread. Either way, I'm done explaining it.

Thanks man. This is the exact sort of thing I'm looking for. The explanation of why you chose them is helpful as well. If any of them are chosen it will make it easier for character creation. :-)

As mentioned before, I'm not around for too long here, but I quickly memorized the name Ashman who's always on guard and strikes swiftly when somebody breakes a rule. Who would be better for an RTS game? :D

Then Kinsei01, who gives stupid questions an honest answer and is very helpful in general.

Sabtastic because she is one of the best and best-known female artists around. And we don't want forum reg's and dudes only, do we?

I know there are many other good candidates (like M-Vero, J-qb etc.), but that's the impression I got, during the time I'm here.
