Whats the story behind marijuana? What happened to make it illegal and when? Ive always wondered but never found the real story. Its less intoxicating than alcohol and less toxic than many other substances. I just dont understand.

You can't test for Marijuana use right there on the spot, and the testing for it is also pretty expensive (at least compared to alcohol tests).

In my opinion it is no more dangerous than smoking cigarettes and getting drunk...
But its harder to detect.

I've been pulled over countless times, and have been asked by the cop:
"Are you smoking anything?"
"Are you high?"
"Have you been doing any drugs?"
etc.

If they can make some sort of device to test you for THC the way a breathalyzer does, then I'm sure it would be legal in a heartbeat.

I think, a bunch of power-hungry bureaucrats deciding exactly how we're going to have fun by way of authoritarian legislation, ill-researched anti-drug campaigns and making personal decisions for us pretty much sums it up.

Of course, the government can't actually trust its people to try drugs for themselves and make intelligent decisions based on personal experience, that'd be too rational!

Because most people are dumb asses and never put that shit to good use. Pot is good for relaxing and being randomly motivated to do things that suck. It is NOT for sitting there and fucking frying with your friends so that they think you're cool. Theres a difference between people who use it and potheads.

try this on for size: pot is a mind altering drug. You can't operate normally under the influence of it. Pot may not kill people, but poor decisions about safety do. Furthermore, pot is harmful to the lymbic system. i know that the alterations aren't permanent, but the temporary effects create psychological addictions and dependencies

Because that's clearly a valid reason for the government to make the personal revelations on our health for us. Let the people experiment with pot for themselves. If they're smart, They'll learn how to use it responsibly and never have any problems (like any drug - ie, alcohol). If they're dumb, they'll overdo it, hopefully learn from their mistakes and never try it again. You do not need an omnipresent authority figure making ridiculous laws and regulations on your personal decisions to have these revelations made for you.

Well, that's for the individual to find out. If someone dies of a drug overdose, nobody loses but themselves. It's their problem, not the governments.
