Free Music? From Youtube? 2010-06-25 22:03:17 Reply

I've noticed lately that there are many ways to download/extract audio from Youtube Videos. I even have a program like this myself. They can be downloaded free from the internet and are made by completely legitimate companies.

But can they be used illegitimately?

But when looking at some music videos on Youtube hosted by VEVO, (Which are the exact music videos that you would download from Itunes or any other legitimate site.) I realized that you could just extract the audio from any of these videos/download them, and bam, free, illegitimate music.

Has anyone else realized this? And do you think there is going to be some sort of attempt to stop this?

There's not really much they can do about it. If you're watching a video or music file, it has to have been temporarily downloaded to your computer. As long as that happens, nothing can stop you from taking it.

You can decide for yourself the morality of it, though.

Not to say there aren't ways for them get around it. I'd be killing the fun if I said how. It's like a riddle.

Right, because big music selling companies lurk on the NG BBS, and the people who actually use the BBS would report this to them. I see your logic, it is undeniable.

Technically, it's not converting it. It's ripping out the audio and putting it into an .mp3 format. If you convert a video file to an audio file, you get static.

Yes, everyone noticed this. So has youtube, that's why they ban/delete anything that isn't 200% official.

I have Ubuntu as my operating system, so the only program I can run is Firefox and some stuff from the Ubuntu store.

I don't support downloading music from YouTube, but if you must, I recommend aTube. It's simple and quick.
