Voting Power: Does it exist? 2010-06-25 17:17:58

Does it really exist, dudes? Ive been voting an art piece on the art portal. This is what i read:

Current Score
4.00 / 5.00

1 votes | 8 views

I found it kinda beautiful, and kuz 1-4 arent really existing for me, i voted 5.

Current Score
4.50 / 5.00

2 votes | 8 views

Dudes, is there a voting power? The chance the previous voter had exactly the same voting power as me, is too slow. What are you thinking? What did you experience?

Maybe you got lucky and got someone else with the same experience, like you said.

I think that everyone should have the same voting power, being as it is all opinion.

Fuck that shit, I have not been a member for over seven years to have the same voting power as you. Besides, it's not THAT much more, and there's a chance that someone with the same voting power as me or higher having the opposite opinion as me.

The system is fine.

I only ever vote 5 or 0. You're more influential that way.

It does work in the music or art portal, but in those portals only your base VP is counted. In other words only the voting power that is dependent on your experience without the BP rank bonus you might have.

To the OP: It can happen that someone with almost equal voting as you voted on it just before you. It's not impossible.

Flash Portal

Thanks for voting, Quicksmasher96! Your experience points have already been deposited for today - thanks for doing the overtime!

Your experience gave you a voting power of 5.38 votes. Your blam and protection points gave you an additional 16% of your experience power, meaning that your total vote power was worth 6.24 votes!

The more experience points you have, combined with BLAM and PROTECTION points, the more your vote is worth!

Art & Audio Portal

Thanks for voting, Quicksmasher96! Your experience gave you a voting power of 5.38 votes.

Keep voting - the more experience points you have, the more your vote is worth!

Only the rank doesnt count dude, but the voting power does!

this

past a certain point, any given level has a very similar voting power to the next and prior five levels around it. And, given that so many people are level 11 - 19, the chance that your other voter carried the same weight as you is high

hahaha you voted 5 for your own entry

Response to Voting Power: Does it exist? 2010-06-26 12:33:26

I think that this is correct. After reading this, I decided to test it out by going to random art entries, multiplying the number of votes by it's score, then adding what I voted, then dividing by the new number of total votes, and it always comes out as me having the same voting power of everyone else.

No, it works in the Audio Portal and Art Portal as well. The B/P bonus is the one that only works in the flash portal.

Have you actually tested if it works, or are you going off of how much it says your vote is worth after you vote?

This. I went from level ten, voting power 5.10, to level 11, voting power 5.30. Very close together, and would most likely have equal estimated power when voting on a movie.

Actually, in that case if you had voted 4 with 5.10 VP and 5 with 5.30 VP the final score would have been 4.5096 or 4.51. Voting the other way around would've resulted in 4.49. So in that case the influence is still a little bit too big. As the voting powers become bigger though (equally far apart), the influence becomes smaller and smaller.

In the OP's case (5.38 Base VP) it was someone who was anywhere between 5.28 and 5.48 Base Voting Power which is a fairly broad range.
