3.91 / 5.00 23,543 ViewsRight, I've seen enough of these threads cropping up recently, that people seem to need a place where they can come to get their fix. Call it good housekeeping, but this is what you're looking for, animators!
Simply put, if you want to advertise for a writer here, put out a ticket. Post on the thread of what you're looking for. A design brief, showing what sort of things you're looking to see in the script. "Anything, just give me something to animate" will not be tolerated, we're not operating that big of a lucky dip.
You should try to show:
1) Character briefs (if any)
2) Setting. It can be as brief as the genre, but that gives us a lot of direction
3) Time limit. Do you want epic length, or just a 30 second short?
4) Will this have potential for continuation? Sequels?
5) Remuneration. How much are you offering on ad revenues etc?
6) Sample links. This is not necessary all the time, as some established artists don't need new work, but if someone hasn't heard of you, showing off your drawing skills can win people over.
7) Deadline. When do you close applications for this by? Granted, this might be extended, but it's to stop people coming along months after the deadline and giving you something that causes you to lose faith with the writer that you chose.
Writers are not expected to respond in this thread. The thread is purely for advertising that you're an artist seeking a writer.
I look forward to seeing your work. If you're expanding upon this in the seeking of further individuals, the Collaboration Forum is the place to be.
(One of the reasons I like mods around here. It is nice to see a shinning aura to back these posts up)
I am sure that anyone needing a writer can find one here ;)
Failure should push you until success can pull you.
Maybe it's just me, but this seems to be a very skewed way to look for a writer. So it's the artist comes in and tells a writer the characters, setting, and more; then the writer does the story the artist tells them to? If you're looking for a writer but have that many details worked out it would seem that you already know the story you want to do.
Or am I wrong, being an idiot, and misunderstanding the entire point of this thread?

Not quite - a design brief can be detailed, as sometimes you make a story that is set within very rigid parameters. For example, WWII Prisoner of War camp. British soldiers and RAF pilots, all male. Versus German guards, also all male. That's short, but rather detailed in itself, while not being obstructive.

Not necessarily, but giving someone a direction to work towards is always a good start

No, the main point was I'm fed up of threads from prospective animators that say "I want to animate something, write me a script or anything and I'll animate it. I don't care what you write, I'll do it!" We need inspiration ourselves, as it doesn't just fall out of the sky.
The animators want the end product, they can have a little control, but not too much. It's not like Ridley Scott walking up to his screenplay writer and saying "Give me Dances with Wolves, but with some weird blue aliens, called Naa'vi.", but you can get a lot from a writer with just a few loose ideas and an image.
Clears up ALOT of stuff, thanks for that.
Hey, don't tarnish Ridley Scott. James Cameron did Avatar. Ridley Scot did Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, Blade Runner, y'know, GOOD movie.

and American Gangster, Kingdom of Heaven, the original Alien (while James Cameron did Aliens)... yeah Ridley Scott probly one of my favorite directors.
Regardless, not a bad idea for a thread. Good to let animators know that we can't always pull something from our arses on a whim.

I had the damn browser crash 4 times while trying to write that and then I get a freaking mental block.
Mind you, James Cameron did some good movies as well - Aliens and Terminator 2 are the only ones I can think of right now.
And I'll bet you any money that Ridley Scott has done some shit in his time.
Oh yeah... Robin Hood :P
Hey, I rather enjoyed Robin Hood.
But yeah, James Cameron did an excellent job with the first two Terminator movies, as well as the abyss. Titanic wasn't too bad even if it wasn't my cup of tea.
Ok, here goes nothing...
1) No characters really, well two ordinary people
2) Genre is comedy - the idea is for it to be an interactive king of the hill flash game.
3) I'm not entirely sure what the end length will be, but I'd imagine there'd be quite a lot, due to all the different paths that can be taken :)
4) Probably won't have a sequel although it may be added on to if the writer wishes
5) 50:50 Revenue split
6) Doesn't really involve much art... it's a game, not an animation and there'll be just three button choices (My newspost has a small example)
7) The deadline for the writing is in about a month (If you do it could you do it in a 'tree' form almost) The flash could take between a month and two months depending on if there's any problems etc.
I think I got it right... If not, sorry :)
Signature? What signature?
Also, any games I plan to make may or may not become vaporware. I'm not good with organizing my life...
Wait, so is this like a commission thread? Why is ad revenue the only mentioned compensation?

I'm trying to keep the discussion to a minimum here - please feel free to link people to this thread, since it might actually be taking off now.

Hooray, the first actual request!

If you re-read the Opening Post, it states under Remuneration "Ad revenues etc". By et cetera, I meant other sorts of payment - I'll get you some exposure on 5 different websites, where I will host this piece, I'll bake you a cake, here's $10 for your work, the only other thing I'll give you is a co-author link and I'll get all revenue from adverts from day one.
I'm not saying that you have to put this down, but an incentive to get authors in always helps - set your stall and then negotiate from there. We're mature people (mostly).

Yes!!!
If you really want to do my story, which I thank you in responding to my thread, I will thank you so much for starting on it!
It has been my lifelong dream to at least bring my story to computer screens across the world.
What would be even better would be to make a whole MOVIE of it.
But, this is close enough. If I get at least a female voice actor, we can go ahead and start on this thing! I will be playing the voice of the main character's creator, and therefore secondary main character himself, Daniel Arcanus.
This is a good idea Mr. Coop. When you speak of revenue, is it actually possible for people to make a decent amount from collaborating on Newgrounds?
I don't speak my mind, I just say whatever pops into my head.
Coo-ee, guys!
I am seeking writers for Tom Ridgewell's (EddsworldTom on Newgrounds or TomSka on YouTube) contest for his ASDF series:
Did you watch it? No? I'll wait...
Now, did you watch the movie? You did? Good!
Well, I need a writer for this "ASDFComp" who can write a short 1-5 second script, that involves no pop-culture references, no copyrighted material, etc. I won't be able to pay you, but you will be able to get 100% of the prize money!
If you're interested please send me a message and we'll talk!
Many thanks!

I know this.
It should be your own original idea

I'm a sh***y writer, and what's wrong with a collaborative effort?
I could write if it's not already takin
