Wow, calm down there champ. And no, your abstract looked like it too more time to render than to actually make it. Try spending some more time on them.

I'll repeat the comment I left on you blog post. Abstract art isn't just abstract for the sake of it. It has as much purpose as any other art form. This however, does not.
nobody goes there anymore. its too popular.

I use them for Desktops all the time.
The only person who likes them is sekhem. He says they are the best in the art portal. And yes he is telling the truth about liking them.
I was expecting something along the lines of an abstract from a research paper for some reason.

I don't like fish, I like prawns though!!!
And these art pieces look like old windows 95 screensavers.
You can make it probably by typing random figures into some kind of image generator program.

To be honest, I can do better than this, and what youre doing isnt abstract, in fact, my only piece of submitted art is far more abstract than any of your pieces, and whats funny is it is a self portrait - enjoy!

just keep trying, eventually you will make something people love
To be honest, what you've done is you've made some pieces of eye candy that would work well as a sig, banner or as others have said, a desktop background. But, as standalone pieces of art, they really don't have a lot of merit that goes beyond practical uses. Sure, they're nice to look at, but there's nothing that artistic about them. Sure, I could commend you on your GIMP (or whatever graphics program you used. It looks like GIMP) skills, but abstract art isn't just about making something that looks visually appealing to the eye. It's about taking a regular idea and distorting it. At least, that's the way that you'll rise above the crowd of amateur filter wizards.
Now, I've used GIMP like twice in my life, so I can't name which steps you took by their exact titles, but I know similar filters in photoshop and I can pick apart how I would recreate that. For example, here, I would make my white dots, apply the star (or whatever that shape is) filter, apply an outer glow, apply a grain filter, add in those lines with a pen tool on preserve hardness and 50% opacity (more or less, depending on the individual line), and then use a single brush stroke on 0% hardness in combination with a pen tool and some single digit percent opacity eraser strokes for creating the fade effect to create the background.
Now obviously those aren't your exact steps because those are photoshop filters and I feel pretty confident that, based on the characteristics of your other submissions, this was made in probably GIMP but if not then some other similar program. But, the principal that I shouldn't be able to create something so similar and name the steps in such detail is the same. Now, I could make vague observations about any piece of art, but this is the abstract equivalent of me being able to say "the author drew the line at a 75.32 degree angle and he took 2.48 seconds to do it in" about a non-abstract drawing.
So, the moral of the story is not to rely on renders. If your render drastically alters the look of your picture, then it would be in your best interest to remove it and see if you can come up with a similar look with the good ol' paint brush and pen tool.
(By the way, I didn't intend to sound harsh, but I can understand how I could be interpreted as such and if I am, I apologize.)
