Ng Exclusive: The Subterrainers Pt1

Hey, everyone. This thread is for a comic I'm making specifically for the art portal. I hope you guys like it. If this thread goes well, I might continue the series.

I guess I should start off with a litte explanation.

The Subterrainers is a comic from another universe, in another language. Set in the Underwater Universe, where it originates from, the Subterrainers is about two teams of otherworldly space explorers, one good and one evil, lost in an unfamiliar environment, getting into adventures, and trying to get home, all the while still keeping their rivalry...aflote. ;)

The concept of this comic is strongly influenced by Luigi Serafini's pseudo-textbook. It is supposed to give you the feeling of someone who just picked up a japanese manga for the first time, or a child who cant read, but is spellbound by his first glance at Superman, soaring through the sky. I hope that the artwork and dialogue let your mind wander as you fill in the blanks yourself. And, most of all, I hope you enjoy! Tell me what you think.

Why not just make a picture book? No one will understand whats going on and people would just make up their own storyline and that defeats the purpose of a comic imo.

It's just a fun little idea. It's supposed to give you the feeling you get when you read a manga in japanese: you can tell pretty much what's going on, but you fill in the blanks yourself. The words are there for aesthetic purposes, to make it more authentic.

You can. there are some arabic and greek looking characters strewn around in there.

This project is going to be really interesting.
The cover looks quite cool, and the layout of the first page reminds me a bit of the first Marvel comics, with that big drawing that works as a secondary cover followed by a couple of panels starting to develop the story... I'm expecting to see the next page!
And about the language idea... I just love it.
I had thought up of something similar one day, when I improvised a little porn comic in my notebook a lot of time ago... Being a notebook, text should be really small, so I just placed the balloons. But I then realised that you could "read" the comic without texts, yet the text globes gave rythm to the narration. The shape and how do you draw them add information on "time" (how much are they speaking) and "mood" (how the voice sounds). That globes have grown into an icon with meaning by itself.
But you can even add more information putting inside things like exclamation marks, dots... Or another globally understood icons. Now you can't say that text-less balloons are pointless!

One day I'll hope to make a properly drawn and well thought li'l porn comic with those ideas in mind... But for now, I'll be expecting the next installment of yours!
