Now I know what you're thinking, and I put a picture at the bottom to illustrate how I feel the exact same way, but I think I just came up with a solution to fix the issue of gay marriage.

Now, gays are angry because they can't get married, BUT Christians are saying that because marriage is a Christian ceremony, and Christianity disapproves of gay marriage, that gays shouldn't be able to get married. This is true, but it only means that. Gays can't get married in CHRISTIAN CHURCHES.

My solution is that gay marriage should be legal in every state of America, BUT the actual wedding must take place in a church that condones and agreed with gays marrying. That way, everyone is happy, because gays get to marry each other, and Christians don't have to allow weddings that are forbidden in their church.

So, Newgrounds, what do you think about all of that?

Or maybe we could just separate the legal and religious sides of marriage?

You want to be wed in the eyes of the lord? Call a priest.

You want the legal benefits of marriage? Call a judge.

Well yeah, partnerships are legal, but gays want to be married, just like everyone else.

In many states, it's against the law to create a functional equivalent to marriage.

I think for the most part, gays just want to be treated like everyone else. A million years ago, I posted a reasonable working solution to this problem, but then all of a sudden marriage was no longer a purely religious institution like everyone had been claiming. Oh well.

Shit, I thought THAT was legal everywhere by now. I thought it was AT LEAST legal for gays to have partnerships everywhere, but I guess America is too bigoted.

That sucks, you had a pretty good idea.

You want an organization that has had anti-homosexual rules in place for thousands of years to do a 180 degree turn of face and be HAPPY about it? Really? How is that going to work?

If you thought that was legal everywhere by now, then it would be a solution for the issue because *gasp* homosexuals would have the same rights as straight married people without religious people getting their panties in a wad over it being called marriage.

So the question then becomes, why did you post this topic at all?

This is going to take a hell of a lot of time, dude. I never said it would happen in a matter of weeks. This will take decades of debate.

Because I was bored.

I never implied that it would happen in a matter of weeks, however, I'm not so naive as to think this will happen in a manner of decades. You've got easily two and a half millenia of tradition in the Biblical stance on homosexuality with barely a hint of waivering on the position, I doubt you'll see the Church change their stance on the issue within our lifetime.

In fact, I think we'll see gay marriage ratified by the government long before it is accepted by the Church, or even accepted by the Church as a whole.

That's what I meant. In a few decades, when we're in our fifties, maybe, the government will have come to terms with homosexuality, but the Church we can forget about. We're lucky if that happens by 2200.

This is not a new idea. This also doesn't warrant it's own thread when the same kind of stuff is discussed ad nauseum here:

You didn't even have to search bar it, it's first page.
