Not to contain the oil and say "Yeah look its dreadfull its going everywhere, look at our cock up!"
Yeah they're cleaning up that shit, but what are they doing to actually stop it... it seems a little short sighted?
I would have assumed that they would have done something at least, not just hide what oil has allready come out.
Have I just not read everything ooorrrr is it actually the most short sighted thing in history?
Because I see it as someone going into the kitchen and realising they left the tap on, now instead or turning off the tap and pulling out the plug, they begin to mop up the overflowing water... It's not solving the problem, it's just slowing it...

Thats exactly what it is. And i think that no one really knows how to eftectively stop the oil without having anything put on top instantly blown up. BP is trying to bide time so their "experts" can come up with a plan of action. Or maybe we're fucked till its more oil than ocean in the gulf. Who knows.

They have tried many things. This isn't something very many people understand, the amount of pressure at the depths they're working is incredible. I'm sure you'll get people replying "...why don't they just..." but it's far from as easy as that. There are the worlds best engineers working on this, no single company was prepared for this sort of thing (where every normal method failed).

SOMETHING.
As apposed to, nothing.
I don't know, I know they'res a leak in the pipe... fix it [somehow]... or is that too rational?

it's worse than you think it is, than everyone thinks it is. it's not something easily stoppable. kinda weird you decided to make a thread about this shortly after i did? unless you didn't see everything i just posted.
ok
You don't understand.
There isn't a leak in the pipe, theres a leak in your pipe.
We don't care :D

Also consider the thing is going at nearly 7000 PSI, a pressure much higher than your kitchen sink.

because i'm laying down the raw facts here. i'm laying down what's coming straight from my heart and what i feel. like i said, it's terrifying but we need to come to terms with all of this. i would love nothing more than to stand behind a podium and try to get what i posted across to the rest of the world, but that's an impossible task.
ok
Stopping the oil spill isn't as simple as turning off the sink. Actually, think of it as a leaked pipe beneath your sink. Water's gonna spew out of it super fast. Now imagine that, but with oil spraying out 5,000 ft. beneath the ocean's surface. Apparently, BP capped the pipe that the oil came out of, but instead of 10,000 gallons leaking out per several or so minutes, it's 6,000. So, they're making some real progress!
Also, I don't claim to know entirely what I'm talking about here but I hope I at least got the gist of it.
I laugh at your sigs!

im thinking of it, now where can i turn the main valve to stop the flow

Ah, I'm alot less caring then you, I'm a logical person and whats happening just doesn't make sence to me... I'm not terrified, and yes I've come to terms that everything in that ocean could and probally will die... LOL sucks.
I don't care that the ocean is being absolutly destroyed by the oil... shit happens, however shit needs to get cleared up, not left to foster and turn into something a whole lot worse.
It just seems that the whole approach that BP and everyone has is doing seems kinda... passive... like "Oh well, I'll get right on with that"

They are just waiting for the ocean to become 95% oil, then we are all going to be left on earth to die as all the important people kill the navi and take over Pandora as their new home and occasionally send ships to collect our ocean water as fuel back up in Pandora. But! we will have our revenge in the year 2420 when we finish our evolution into oil drinking demons and summon a portal to Pandora wich we then invade and destroy.
From what I understand the spill is spurting at the bottom of the ocean. Now if your able to go under the water and not implode, go ahead n' plug it up. But uhh so far, no real solution exists. There are fully funded widespread searches for possible ways to stop the leak, but nothing is viable! its difficult realy. And you could play the "why dont they just do x" game all day, but most plans are rediculous and not very well grounded.

Are you talking about the oil spill in Canada?
I heard about it, but I've never seen any real evidence.

I'm sensing a discrepancy here...
Anyway, as others have noted, it's not exactly an easy task. But what bothers me, is that it had been going on for weeks before BP went public about it, and this only after people started noticing the spill.
Essentially BP cut important corners, a leak sprang, but instead of it dripping and you getting a bucket and towel, you get something designed especially designed for the job because of the amount and B) the speed of which its being released.
they have done something- they've put an upturned funnel over it to at least make the flow not as much, waiting until enough pressure is relieved so that they can finally put something on top of the leak.
They've tried a few methods, none of which were completely successful. Some think they can use a nuclear explosion under the ground to block the drill-hole letting the oil go.
