How did Mods become Mods?

I know, Moderators look for users who set a good example, follow the rules, and suck Mod cock, they make a recommendation, and an Admin says yes.

Just out of curiosity, Mods, did you ever think that you would become a Moderator? Did you make an account and say 'Some day, I'm gonna be a Mod! Yeah!'. Or did you just try to be a responsible poster and not be a dick head? Or did it just kind of happen, and you though 'Huh....so what do I do now?'.

They will be noticed by other moderators or administrators & given a small role of moderating for things like specific forums, or portals. The moderation will eventually do a vote that decides whether or not to make the user a full moderator (meaning they can moderate the whole BBS). Does that help?

A regular can never know when they are going to be made a mod and half the time moderators don't know whether someone will be a mod. Wade always makes the final decision, and sometimes he's the only one involved in the decision and sometimes he asks for suggestions. Sometimes those suggestions turn into something and sometimes they don't. There have been times someone was almost moderated, and then they did something right after everyone gave consent and opinions had to be reformulated. Its a very biological process, and it isn't even set up in much of a structure.

Some huge turn offs include: spam, narcissistic behavior, purposefully flaunting the rules, etc.

I knew for a while I wanted to be a moderator before they modded me, but I had no idea when or if it would happen and it took me a long time to adjust my attitude to one that probably finally let the mod team accept me. Mainly, being relaxed, enjoying the forums, but operating within the rules and not doing anything wrong.

Some other things that go into the decision:
- Are there any forums that need mods?
- Has the user been around long enough?
- When was the last time they were banned?
- Can they be a part of the team and work with the team to make the forums better?
- Is the user responsible?
- Does the user bring something extra to forums to make them more enjoyable?
- Does the user have a positive or negative outlook?
- Is the user comfortable with being "just a user"?
- Does the user understand the rules and more importantly why they were made?
- Is the user on often enough to do anything?
- Is the user on too often, so (s)he might get burned out?
- Does the user have boobs?
