Dear radio broadcasters:
God damn.
Some people have to learn, that when you sign a contract, you abide by the rules imposed in a contract. If the FCC contract tells you cannot say the F-word, and you signed that contract, then you agree with it. Now either shut up about it or get your ass of the air.
I listen a lot to talk radio, its my main source of news, and 70 percent of talk show hosts are always complaining about what they cannot say or can say. THIS IS NOT A VIOLATION OF FREE SPEECH! You are allowed to express ANY opinion you have, you do NOT have to use any forbidden words to do so. If I was to go around in my neighbour hood and yell the f-word at the top of my lungs I'm sure i'd get in trouble because i would disrupt many. When talk shows swear that are disrupting more than many. Hundreds and maybe millions even.
Am I starting a revolution on Newgrounds because I can't post porn?

Well actually (at least in Michigan) it is okay to run around screaming the F-word. It used to be illegal to swear in front of women and children. However, that law was repealled about 3 years ago.
As for the whole porn thing Californias Supreme court ruled that it was freedom of speech(This is why most porn movies are made there.) And even some conservatives (as Rush Limbaugh on the Drew Carey Show) believe that the censorshiip of porn is against free speech.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone claimed to be completely against the FCC as well (As stated Dennis Miller Live).
I personally am completely opposed to censorship. In japan they have words that translate to the f-word or shit, yet they are still allowed on television. In fact I cannot think of one Japanese word that isn't allowed on their t.v. Afterall in the words of George Carlin "They're just words".

Yes, the FCC crackdown is really annoying. And to come back to what you said, (you being the author), that you do not believe it is against free speach, but they do not need to use obsenaties to do so? Well isn't that their right under free speach? Anyway, as an aside, it's not the FCC who rasied the bans, it was Congress, the FCC frankly I don't think cares, they just follow their job, hence why the fine has been so low. Also, not everything is censored, infact the FCC rules have been rolling back recently (well up to the teet thing). Personally, censorship is a stupid idea, agreeing that the government has no right to force PC upon the public.

The FCC has always bothered me because they do from time to time try to curb free speech for bogus reasons, though there hasn't been a major case of this lately.

For the most part I agree with you that these talk show hosts really have no need of obscene language. This is because it's perfectly alright to talk about sex and things like that as long as you don't use certain words to describe it. Stupid? Well yeah but it's not the end of the world.

I don't believe in swear words, although is swear a shit load (see...), but I don't belive swear words hold any additional meaning than any other word. So I don't understand why they are necessary.

A contract with whom? The government? So that the government can take away how they can speak? There are couple ways you can say things. There is how you say it, there is what you say, and there is where you say it. Basically like in a triangle, if you limit one of these you limit free speech. Don't think so? What if I said "Fuck off" instead of "Leave?" Different saying, same message, but the first one seems to have a lasting effect on people and gets your idea off a little bit better. it is natural for parents to want to protect their kids, but i feel that in terms with pornography and foul language, they just can't. people shouldn't get fined for saying certain words. there is a contract that broadcasters make with the government its a social contract that they can only say what a community has deamed as not obcene. the only time that a broadcaster for the most part, the biger shows are listioned to by the fcc but otherwise all fines are doled out only after someone who was listioning to the show complains to the fcc and the fcc then lanuches an investigation. they investigate by grabing the tape of the said show and listions to it to see if by the communitys standards in which the complaint was made that the show was obcene. ie if it brakes ocenity laws in a comunity or state a fine is levied. radio is cenored like this because it is broadcast over the open air and anyone can listion at anytime and thus seen as in the public domain which makes it fall under all laws of the area that it is broadcast in.

i said obcene and the fcc has to investigat to verify the aligations. theres a big deal in south florida righ now because there is only one spanish translator for all of the fcc so they cant go through all the complaints. on total for all of the us the total fines for english speaking shows is in the one million acouple hundred thousand were as the spanish speaking shows have only had total fines for all shows combined being in the seven hundred thousand dollar range.

If parents want their children to not have bad influences, then they should turn off the radio, it's that simple. Parenting should be taken upon by the parents not by a coorperation nor government, thus the word parent in parenting.

Anyways, really, who listens to the radio today besides adults that drive? Children don't listen to the radio because there is no need for them to. The only time they would listen to the radio is if an adult is nearby, which is likely to be in a child care center, and more likely they would have on soft music. Teenagers will more likely listen to the radio a lot more because they are able to drive. By this time their ideas and opinions have been pretty well made, and they know right from wrong.

Ooh funny story on this lil topic. My friend's next door neighbor is Mormon. They, if you don't already know, are extremely strict on everything that they do. I mean they can't even drink coffee because it contains caffeine! Well, anyways, when this mormon chick was in 9th grade (She was homeschooled up until high school) and they were reading about a poem about a woman cheating on his husband (Well obviously that meant sex if you haven't come to that conclusion yet). The chick went absolutely berserk. She had her hand over her ears and started to mumble. Now, if that isn't censorship, I don't know what is.

How can a child stay normal if you wrap him up in cotton woll and lie to him about stuff? Tell him. This brings up an interesting idea. If a child doesn't know, then it can't hurt him. It will only hurt him when he finds out. Like in the book "The Giver," the child in the end went off from the place he has know all of his life after being given all of the information about the world.

Also, how many radio stations are there in the United States? How many of them have Howard Stern? How many have MPR news (I think that's what its called)? I think it's irrational for you to come to the conclusion that if you allow no censorship at all that that all that will become of it would be Talk Show hosts babbling about sex and drugs. If you do actually think that, then you have some misperceptions of the world and you may need to talk to a shrink. Control on electromagnetic waves seems so silly to me. You actually need to have something on the other end to receive it, it's not like someone is yelling it down the street.
