Hey mates, I'm composing a metalcore song, I'm thinking in name it "This is not my world", it has lot's of heavy riffs harmonizing with some melodics and emotional riffs, and it also has a simple but nice solo with a nice breakdown in the end with a pinch harmonic I am just finishing and then I'll try to record... I hope it runs well...

Nu-Metal/Metalcore. Metal Hell Metal is not just music, is a life...

I have nightmares about classical guitars. Mostly due to the ones that were (and probably still are) at my highschool. I swear they must have been made on a day where the slave labourers were having an uprising and the last time the strings were changed was when Jesus was still shitting in his nappies.

Anyone who had their own guitar or for that matter access to a different one

Weak pickups and no whammy. That's what I think.

I see. I don't really care about not having a whammy though. And the pickups are replaceable. What do you recommend instead(guitar in 200-300 range)?

This one has a whammy and awesome pickups!

I dislike whammy bars though

A question: Do you guys tend to strum erratically and uncontrollably during practice when you begin to lose focus?

I've been playing in Drop D a lot lately, it's so easy to come up with good sounding riffs in that tuning.

Inside (Thread) joke. We all mainly play on electrics and half of us (use to?) are highly keen on playing difficult pieces and of course that mainly involves single-picking and so the joke lies within the idea that our we're not knowledgeable of anything beyond single-picking. That's a rough break-down behind what just happened 900 pixels above this post.

I finally have enough cash to buy this beast, but I'm also considering
this mother. They seem to be basically the same guitar, but with different finishes. What do you guys think?

I have enough money for that one right now, and the only thing I'm worried about is the durability of the guitar and the tuning. I've never played a guitar with a locking nut before, and I bet it's a bitch to change strings. I think I'm going to buy this one though. I liked the other one because it was blue.

All you have to do is loosen the allen key things and take the top of the clamp off, then its just a normal nut.

The floating bridge is where tuning becomes tedious :P. But you get used to it and plan your weeks so that you've got the entire weekend free to restring :P.

I have never heard of Laguna, but by the looks of it...looks like a knock off of an ESP eclypse. Body style isn't bad, and I like the string-through body (creates better resonance) w/ tune-o-matic bridge. Not bad. My only suggestion would be to grab a different pickup (you don't need to buy two) to replace the bridge humbucker. I can almost gaurantee that the stock humbuckers sound muddy as hell (my F-50 did), but to get a great sound and use some of the chunk from the neck mud...get like a DiMarzio super-distortion, or something with a lot of clean tones and clarity. The two combined will make you sh*t your pants. To hear an example, check out Darkness in You. This is a song I recorded with my F-50 using the DiMarzio Bridge/ESP Neck humbucker combo. Sounds even meatier live! Someone mistook the sound for EMG-85's. lol Good luck!

Yeah, i was gonna replace the humbuckers eventually, but i don't know what to get. I want to learn how to play classic rock, rock, (early) metal, pretty much a wide range of styles, so i'd need something that can give a strat-type or les paul sort of sound, and produce a metal-type sound.

I played it at a guitar shop four years ago. My memory of it isn't the best of course but it felt pretty solid in my hands though the pickups aren't the best on neither guitar.

A locking-nut is going to become your best friend as soon as you try it out. How often do you even change strings? once every three months? I got my time down to 25 minutes, it's not hard at all and the tuning will never raise or drop; you can throw the guitar around and constantly keeping putting and taking it out of a guitar case without a second frequency drop on any of the strings. And don't get me started on how critical is it own when you got a whammy on the guitar; then the strings will go out of tune if you don't have a locking-nut. Here's a breakdown to how to change the strings.

I hope I'm not too late, I saw this and replied right away.

DO NOT GET THE RG5, DO NOT,DO NOT GET IT!

I had it for a week and I took it back, the locking nut snapped, the whammy bar collapsed, the volume knob for the neck pickup shorted out, and all the strings were like three or four months old.

Seriously, if you're going to get it, don't even touch it when it shows up. Take it DIRECTLY to a guitar tech and have it professionally set up.

Fucking RG series sucks.

I bought a Les Paul Standard as a replacement. I'm very pleased. (:

You are... aware that the series goes up to the several thousand dollar mark? And that more than half of the greatest guitarists in the world use one; such as Paul Gilbert and countless others. It's possible that you could of gotten a bad one that was one in a million.
