Erm, in a slightly more on-topic note, I'm going to form a kick ass progfunkjazz band, hooray! So far we got guitar bass and drums, but I'm hoping a flute player friend will join us.

And also maybe form a rancid blues band with a friend just for the heck of it.

Limited Edition Epiphone Les Paul
The Beatles/Led Zeppelin
8 months, but i play all the time so i'm better than most people i know that have been playing for about that long.

i'm looking to buy a new guitar, and i've narrowed it down to three choices, they are
the Epiphone Limited Edition 1966 G-400
the Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Custom(Silverburst)
and the G-1275 Custom (Double Neck)
which of these do you think is the best buy? my Les Paul is good but i've had it for four and a half years and when i got it i didn't treat it very nicely so it isnt in the best condition. now that i am older and actually care for my stuff i would like a new guitar, but i'm unsure of what to get. your opinions would be greatly appreciated

I can't think of anything clever at the moment

Hmm... Personally I think both the SG and the LP look awful in that color, and the double neck is more versatile, plus you already have an LP.

I don't know, part of me is saying "dude, double necks? no thanks. Hey that kind of rhymed" and the other part is saying "It's the most reasonable choice, dude" and yet another part is saying "kill your parents, dude"

So there, see you in a week.

Played a good show last night, big crowd, I really shredded on some stuff, even though my third finger (which I use a lot) had a wound on it and it hurt like a bitch to play most of the time. That's what adrenaline does I guess.

Damn, have I lost interest in NG.

Anyway, I think I just wanted to stop in to say I basically quit guitar altogether. I don't think I've picked up any of my guitars in months.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

I can't think of any reason why I'd ever quit guitar... want to or otherwise.

Even if I was forced to sell mine I'd still keep an interest and buy a new one when I could.

I didn't plan on quitting, it just happened. I just lost interest altogether. It happened over a long period of time.

I think it's because I started college in September, have a girlfriend, etc. and it just got pushed aside.

I remember a long time ago posting here about how I was losing interest and how I thought it was a phase... guess not.

It still could be. Phases don't necessarily have to only a few months long, though they are commonly that long.

Here seems to be the most appropriate place to post this news.

So if any of you remember i made a working electric guitar for my Majorwork last year, along with it i made a coffin shaped case to hold it and a guitar stand as well. I got 93/100 for the whole subject which means that the majorwork itself must have been pretty fucking good.

To reinforce this, my job has been asked to be picked out of 3500 other works, to be displayed in a woodwork show which displays 100 jobs out of the 3500 selected, showcasing them and whatnot. I haven't been given confirmation of it that my job WILL BE used, nor are my hopes to high, but hey, it's awesome enough i got chosen to send in my work.

Displayed jobs go in the running for cash prizes, so if i do get selected, and if i do win one of these prizes, be sure to remember me so you can tell all your friends 'OMFG I KNOW A LUTHIER WHO MAKES/REPAIRS GUITARS FOR </insert band>'

Ok, lets not get to ahead of myself. But just thought id celebrate this awesome-ness somewhere where its most suited.

Man, did I underestimate Dean guitars. I played this bad boy at a guitar center last week, and oh man it was incredible. Not to mention the price is very reasonable. This is the guitar I need.

But, never buy a Dean with a tremolo on it. Those "Licensed by Floyd Rose" things are a slap in the face.

Maybe it has to do with the actual installation of it that makes their guitars, shit. Because I'm still in love with the L-FR on my Jackie. Those guitars appear weird, how would one get a travel case for one? Let alone play one sitting.

Its only like a V mixed with an Explorer.

Hey guys. I know everyone is probably going to be all like "WTF!!!!" when I say this but I need some help putting in some pickups. I bought a set of two rockfield swc's for my mockingbird but I do not know what the hell to do lol. I know how to solder and I have the right solder for it (rosin flux core). I just dont know what part of this means.
Wire Red to volume pot.
Wire Green and White together.
Wire Black and bare to ground.
where do I then solder the green and white? They came soldered together. Plus the black and bare to ground. I do not know what bare to ground means though. I'm thinking I should just look at how the pickups are wired right now and just follow that. or maybe not because I would fuck something up. lol. Any help?

So I learned the Diminished 7ths scale, is that the one you were talking about PM? I also sort of learned the phygrian scale. What would I use these scales for?

With my lack of electronic knowledge, i shall try and help.

Wire Red to volume pot.

Find the 'Volume' knob and solder to the underside of it.

Wire Green and White together.

Leave as they are.

Wire Black and bare to ground.

Im guessing this means to earth this wire somehow. That is, put it to something that wont conduct electricity (i think).

The diminished scale has two modes. The mode that starts with a semitone is very versatile, as you can build minor, minor 7th, major and dominant chords over it. The second mode (starts with a tone) ony has diminished chords as far as I know.

As for phrygian (get it right) you can use it for flamenco-style soloes/licks/whatever especially if you use the harmonic minor scale with it (meaning, if you're in A minor harmonic, playing around E, which would be sort of a phrygian-harmonic scale). It should be noted, though, that if you're in the harmonic minor, the root chord of the phrygian mode becomes a Major one rather than minor.

Now go learn the scales I told you in the previous page ;)

Any questions?

You'll probably have one or two earth points in your guitar. The earth will usually be a mass of solder on the back of one of your points. One of the lugs of your pot will probably also be soldered to this earth point. So you should do this:

Solder the red wire to one of the lugs or tags on your volume pot. I think you'll be wanting to solder it to the right-most lug, if you want the volume to descend as you turn the knob anti-clockwise. Look, as long as you're not wiring it to the lug that is connected to the earth, it'll be fine ;)

As for the black wire and the bare shield, yep, just twist the tips together, and solder to the earth point on your pot.

And the green and white? If my mind serves me correctly, you can just leave them hanging out in the open (connected together of course).

Hope to be of some help!

Hey all, I'd like to join. I've been playing guitar for about 7 years on and off and learning from self teaching. I have a Gibson SG Faded series and an Elger acoustic. My amp is a piece of shit 50 Watt line 6 Spider. I'm gonna have to get a new one in case I get a legit band going again in college. Anyone have any suggestions on amps that aren't too much and have a good distortion? I want at least a 100 watt.

I have $200 Dean guitar and I love it. The humbuckers are very powerful and it can get a nice bluesy sound.

I have $100 in the bank right now and I have four gigs coming up soon (which means another $400), so I'm looking at guitars sometime. I want a metal guitar that will be able to easily drop tune and stay in tune, and that will play very nice on the neck. Suggestions? I was looking at this, this, or this.

I shat my pants yesterday, first time ever a guitar has fallen over on me. It was a horrible few seconds. Thankfully nothing has happened (though I think the neck has bowed a little, but I'm not sure if its my imagination or not), but no cracks or loose anythings.
I'm lucky :).

I assume by drop-tune you mean tune lower and not change between, say, standard and drop-D. So I'd go for the Xiphos, mainly because it looks fucking ace and cause Muhammed (the Muslim prophet, not the Necrophagist guy) plays one.
