Wow, my guitar is holding up rather well. I haven't even had to change the strings yet. It still sounds great, haven't even touched the tuners. Still in perfect condition, I've maybe dropped it once or twice. What I'm looking forward to next? I was looking at this
But my guitar is still pretty new, either way by the time I have enough for that, this one shouldn't be so new anymore.

Hello everyone. Could I join this club?
I play electric mostly but will play some acoustic once in a while. I play on a (Here comes the laughter) Epiphone SG, 50 Watt Marshall MG 50 DFX, and use a Boss MT-2 pedal. I was a huge idiot when I get the SG, didn't know anything about electrics or what brands are out there even. It's truly a piece of fucking shit. Everything is breaking, the nut broke twic, the knobs are coming loose, some of the tunners are super loose when there are no strings on.

The bridge is screwed up and nearly falls out when no strings are on, a big piece of paint chipped off when I dropped it once.. and I only dropped it once so far, the wood on the neck is really bad. You can see on the 12th fret that some glue leaked when they were putting on the fret, the pick ups are really weak, it's scratched a bit, the switch is terrible, it makes sounds when I switch it and the circuitry inside is so poorly soldered on that I'm sure for 100% I could of done a better job if I were to do it.

But what are you suppose to expect from a Epiphone. But some positive things are that it's a Neck-Thru and gives some really nice long notes.. but that's about it. I'm getting a ESP or a Jackson very soon and I can't wait. I been playing since.. January or February of last year and play nearly anywhere from 15~30 a week. I play all kinds Metal mostly and don't see myself changing that anytime soon.

I just picked up a guitar two days ago or so.
Now I now seven chords and feel like I don't really know what to do next.
Right now, I know the Eminor, G, C, and F (majors all of them) chords.
So...help a guy out? What other chords should I learn to not fail? What should I play, and what are good songs for starters? (I'm trying out Dream Theater's Pull Me Under intro right now)

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't start playing Dream Theater for your first week. Learn scales as the Pentatonic Minor (I'm a fan of Minor scales), get one of those posters with like the most used 100 or so chords and just start trying remembering them and to switch between them quickly. That will help you a lot when trying to learn new songs but try not to do it too much because you will get tired of it and will want to quit (I felt like that).

Also, are you playing acoustic or electric? because I would suggest starting to play on a acoustic first as I did because acoustics have higher gage strings will force you to press down harder and help you build callus so you can stop worrying about the pain on your fingers and more on the music. Learning old songs is great for the beginning because they use more chords then songs today use and have more emotion and feeling in them then anything we have coming out of bands these days. That's all the advice I can think of right now. GOOD LUCK.

Wait? A neck thru SG? I have heard of bolt-on and fixed neck models of SGs, but a neck thru? Are you sure about this cause I would double check.

That's a pretty nice guitar. I was actually thinking of getting myself a ESP M Series guitar for quite some time now as well. But I was actually going for a something bit higher quality as the ESP M-400 or the ESP M-1000 which are basically just like the one you plan on getting but with slightly improved Floyd Roses, Actions, Pick-Ups and some more other stuff. And my guitar goes out of tune like everyday after leaving it alone over night or after I play a lot and not necessarily doing a lot of bends while I'm at it.

Les Pauls always seem to last longer and play better then most other guitars.. I'm telling you, those guitars have magic within them. And yeah, I probably did. I got it from the store I got my first guitar at. I can gaurantee you that I won't ever buy anything from there ever again, in fact, my tuner that I bought from there broke a few days ago. It was a piece of shit, ugly tuner anyways and I got myself a new, nice Chromatic one already from a reliable store.

You're right, my mistake, it's a Fixed Neck but it still plays like it's a Neck-Thru. I'm satisfied with the sustain I get from it.

By color i mean, type of wood: Maple, rosewood, jarrah, bloodwood. All i have decided is that the body isn't going to be anything special, just some simple staining. Or if i have time, airbrushed black.

Nope. Homosexuality has only to do with whether or not you like men. And, seeing as it's about a GIRL, well, do I really need to say more? Emotions are not a bad thing, despite what anyone tells you. As an artist, you should write about things that YOU want to write about. If every artist did that, maybe mainstream music wouldn't be so crappy. But instead they write lyrics that are popular, and rely too much on what fans and the record company want them to do, instead of writing and playing what they want.(yea, i'm an underground fan.)

Color of the fretboard: I would use Mahogany because of the thick sound it gives.
Inlay color and shape: Some sort of shiny pearl in a shape of skull and bones?
Body style:Ibanez RG Tremolo series type of body made out of Alder?
Headstock style: Pointy ESP Headstock Simple yet effective?

Well I never heard it. I was just assuming it was hard because I heard they play hard stuff and I think I heard one of their solos once and it sounded difficult. Sorry for the double-post.

Yeah, those are really nice guitars. I wish I could get one of those higher quality ones, but I don't have that much money at all. I'm looking forward to it, if it stays in tune like it says it should, I should be very happy with it.

Yeah, Locking-Nuts for the win. I read all the reviews for these guitars, tried them out for my own and heard opinions from friends. These things stay in tune no matter how much brutal force you put on those strings.

Maybe, but I think I will stick with my hardtail bridges so I don't need a locking nut anyways. Even if I do buy a Strat or something, the bar will either be off all the time or it will be a hardtail model.

Locking-Nuts aren't just for guitars with tremolo bars. You can buy them seperately and installl them on any guitar. Some people that bend a lot install them because their tired of having to retune their guitars so often.

Heh well the thing is i havent written lyrics or anything, I was just thinking of a girl i like and some music started coming out, and it's got some spanihs flavour due to her being of that origin.
It's a little bit progressive too, but it wouldn't be a long song. I just like fitting in lots of melodies.

Well, I would still recommend writing lyrics, If you're ever going to show it to her, If you're good at writing lyrics/ Singing, It will totally melt her heart.

Because a song with only guitar, Could really be about anyone, But this one's specially for her.

Yeah, but my theory is "if you don't need it, why have it." The more complex parts on a guitar, the more there is to go wrong.

I follow that theory as well and I agree 100% but it can come useful at times and it's just a nut : 3, unless you honestly tighten it way too much and cause the strings to some how break in half, I'm not sure how it could go wrong :)

If you have a guitar without a vibrato (NOT TREMOLO) arm and you go out of tune because of bends, just get new tuners. They might cost a little more, but it saves you the stringing headaches you'd get with a locking nut.

Hey guys, I have a question.
I've always loved the sound and style of the classic spanish guitar, and would like to learn how to play it. The problem is though, I don't even know where to start. Can anybody reccomend any easier songs for somebody who is basically a beginner?

Like Fur Elise, Smoke on the water, day tripper, level beginner.

Well, there is over-tightening it, causing it to jam making it near impossible to change strings without using plyers potentially snaping the fine-tuners, knocking the fine tuners, breaking the top half of the nut and changing strings quickly in a gigging situation. And if you have to rely on the locking nut to keep a hardtail guitar in tune long, I would worry about the quality of the tuners and/or bridge anyway.

I like my guitars simple, thus that is why I love my Telecasters.

Nirvana songs. Their simple, help you start doing power chords and they sound good. And Spanish guitar playing is quite difficult, don't let it get you down, you're just beginning : )

It's not like locking nuts are complicated. They're not. There's nothing wrong with a little bit more tuning stability. I stand by locking nuts even for non-trem guitars. As for restringing, it takes about 30 seconds more with a locking nut.
