Do you usually upgrade the guitars you buy once you've bought them? Like do you spend more money after that.
I have never really tempered with my guitars settings, is this another things which I shoudl do to try and find the best for me, or is this not advisable.
Someone once said to me that the les Paul is like Gibson's equivelent to the strat, and that the Telecaster is like Fender's equivelent to the SG. Like that they gave similar kinds of sounds and the way they play. I have never really noticed this but has anyone else herd this?

Someone was very wrong. The only similarities is that the Strat is Fenders most popular output, just as the Les Paul is Gibsons. The Tele and SG share the fact they're their manufacturers second most popular guitars.

Ah, I should really stop listening to what people to say. I didn't think they were all that similiar from listening to them or playing them.

yeah there was this guy in a guitar shop who was telling me to do that. He told me to never listen to a word anyone says but I thought is that not a paradox. Then when he reccomanded this more expensive guitar but I completly ignored him. So it resulted in him not getting as large a sales profit.

What's everyone's dream set up? I'm looking to upgrade from my current one, and would like some opinions.. dream guitar/pedals/pods/amp, the whole package.. What would be the absolute perfect set up in your opinion?

Only if i absolutely have to.
Also, you'd think that the Telecaster would have more in common with the Les Paul than the Strat would. For starters, they are both essentially a huge slab of wood.
And dream guitar setups? Mine would be so expensive ;(
I posted one in here a bunch of pages ago, which included 4 PODxt's...I think. But now I think I'd like to change two of those PODxt's in favour of the Rocktron Prophesy 2.

Mine would be a American Deluxe Strat or Tele with the Boss DD-20 delay (or something cooler), going trough a wall of AC-30's, maybe a podxt for amp models and more effects.
Yeah, as if I'll ever have the money.

Firstly, many people in this thread would beg to differ, themselves being content Epiphone owners.
Secondly, Epiphone is not Japanese, it's Korean.
Thirdly, there is nothing crap about Japanese craftsmanship. Much of the time, a Japanese instrument will surpass the quality of the equivalent American model. You might be getting confused with China.\
Forthly, Epiphone is a subsidary of Gibson, so it would only make sense that they make copies of Gibson guitars. Just how Squier is a subsidary of Fender.
Fithly, can you tell the difference between the sound of a guitar made from a solid slab of wood, or a slab of wood composed of two or three separate pieces? I certainly can't, and I'm pretty sure you can't either.
And who cares about the resale value? Epiphones are cheap enough for that to be a non-issue. Plus, if you're purchasing a guitar with the intention of selling it later on, maybe you should try and commit to a choice, rather than just randomly buying on a whim.

I'd have that Ibanez that Herman Li plays, dunno what the model is, but its hot in Natural Finish :D.
Throw in a Ibanez JEM and a RG7420 and I'll be somewhat content on the guitar front.
In terms of pedals and amps I'm too much of a noob to know what I want, so I'm not even gonna bother trying. I'll leave the massive rig for Jarryd :P.

Well this has been baffling me ever since I heard the song. Check this video out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bb-DGS0RlpA
At the time 1:33 on the video, Satriani does some weird whammy thing, and I have no idea how he does it. I've tried emulating it myself and it doesn't sound at all like the song. Can any of you enlighten me?

Epiphone is Gibson you fucking idiot. Its not copying them! Its making more affordable Gibsons, without the Gibson name.
Oh, Epiphone is crap workmanship, that's why the price is usually a fifth of a Gibson.
My Epiphone is brilliant. Likewise, there are tonnes of artists who use Epi over Gibson. Noel Gallagher of Oasis... the dude from MCR (kay, not credible, but still. He's rich as fuck yet he still plays an Epiphone).
Doesn't matter, they're still basically hand-me-downs compared to a well made Gibson.
Do you work for Gibson or something?

Beatles used a lot of things, and in my eyes I always see the Rickenbackers.
Noel and MCR guy uses Epi's exclusively. Noel's signature is actually an Epi too... I don't think there even is a Gibson.
And proof that Gibson are hacks.
They get a LP Junior, put Billy Joe Armstrong's signature on it, and sell it for five times the normal price... to "recreate" a nasally punk tone no less.

I always see the horrid Hofner Beatle bass, Harrison's Gretsch and John's Epi Casino.
And also the guy from Twisted Sister (Not the one with the scary face, but the guitarist) uses Epi Les Paul's exclusively as well. And his Epi's rock as they are bright pink. And a shitload of others use Epi's as they are cheap yet quality instruments. The only advantage a Gibson has over an Epi is the name. I am actually considering an Epi hollowbody as my next guitar.

All the members of The Beatles used epiphones so I personally would assosicate them with being the beatles guitar. Also I always think of Lennon of playing his Epiphone Casino because he played it on the beatles last performance, the one on the rooftop of apple records.
A few other names that use them the guitarist in the strokes Nick Valensi. Another extremely crap person who uses them is the guitarist from fallout boy. But Fallout boy and My chemical Romance using them probably lowers there rating as guitars.
Still it shows they aren't bad guitars and can be used at a professional level.

Yeah at the moment I ain't buying anything either, unless it is a once in a lifetime chance and then well yeah. I'm thinking either a ES-295, an Alleycat or a Broadway. And if you get the chance get a Tele. They rock. I would be a lost soul without mine.

I'm not going to buy a new guitar any time soon, but for the distant future I was thinking of getting another electric guitar, one which has a really good clean tone, and is good for playing clean guitar on. Can anyone reccomend any guitar which are especially good for playing clean guitar on? Because my Les Paul is quite average for clean stuff but only really amaizng for distortion. Cause at the momeunt I perfer the sound of a clean guitar.

Well I would have to say my Tele has a great clean sound. Infact I would say that my Tele is a good alround guitar for most situations that it gets involved in and I would be absolutly distrought if anything happened to it as there is no place where I can just go and order a new one as mine went out of production 20 years ago.
Now for all those that do not know, my Tele is not made by Fender or any associated brands and does not have the word Telecaster or Fender anywhere on it. I just call it a Tele because that is what it is a copy of and thats basically what it is and it is also a fuckload easier than sayina a Tokai Breezysound then having to explain what it is. And all those that say get the real thing it would be better, FUCK YOU!! I like my Tokai and how would you know. You have not played my guitar before.
