My favorite is the Springfield XD-14 .45 model, it shoots great, and from my experience, with it if you can aim right, you can hit almost anything.

As far as rifles, I really an interested in the M-16 6.8 models, I've never shot them, but they have a good rep, so I'll have to wait till I fire it for myself to make a judgment.
