You may have heard, but Futurama will be back THIS MONTH, on the 24th to be exact, with the original voice actors and everything! I'm excited, but I have a troubling suspicion that the show may have pulled a Simpsons, switching to a more "current" style of humor, parodying things that will make the episodes in which they are being parodied completely dated within a year.
On wikipedia, I read the synopsisises for the first three episodes of the new season. The first onewill be about how they get back to earth, after the events of the last movie. Sounds good enough. The next episodewill be about Leela and Zapp Brannigan being stranded on an Eden like planet. Sounds interesting. I'm sure some Brannigann Shenanigans will ensue.
My problem is with the third episode. The title alone is disheartening: "Attack of the Killer App." The synopsis says that the episode will be about iPods and Twitter in da future, with Mom of Mom's Friendly Robots being in charge of twitter. This one is gonna suuuuuck. I mean, have any of you guys seen the Simpson's episode with the "Mapple Store." The worst. Episode. Ever, in my opinion. It's like, every single joke in the episode was based off putting the letter "M" in front of something popular. It's like the King of the Hill episode about Myspace, which came out about 6 months before facebook fully became popular. This shit is gonna be outdated real soon, and there will be no reason to watch it in reruns.
So, enough of my nonsensical rantings. How do you think the new season of Futurama's gonna be?

At least it's not like Family Guy, which references pre-80's material far too often.
What sprang to mind, and might not totally be true, is that when you watch old Futurama / Simpson's episodes, they're making fun of older generations because that's when they were written. As the shows progress in time, so does the reality it makes fun of. But for the record, I thought the Mapple thing was hysterical.

The Simpsons =/= Futurama
yes they're both matt groening and yes they might be the same team (might not be), but the point is the two shows have a very different approach to humour and always have.

Hopefully futurama doesn't pull anything like this bullshit.
I am not witty or clever enough to make my own sig, thus I have stolen one instead.

I'm actually trying to hear as little as possible about the new Futurama season as I want it all to be a surprise when I see it myself. As for the concerns about the third episode, I'll admit that the idea is iffy but I have confidence in the writers and hopefully this episode won't be as bad as you think. If it happens to be bad, there's still the other 20 or so episodes to look forward to.

Oh come on now, live in my shoes. I'm a mac user, and quite frequently find myself in or around discussions with people who refute Apple's authenticity, except they do it with such excessive amounts of vulgarity. Then one day I finally come across a Simpson's episode which makes fun of Apple, using the exact same arguments as those previous boorish chaps, except add a light-hearted humor to it. Now instead of facepalming, I can laugh at my own fanboyism

I agree with you on the first thing you said. Sasha Baron Cohen was supposed to be like, the funniest thing in the episode, but I couldn't make out a friggin word he said. Also, which episode are you talking about being the best? If you mean Chief of Hearts, ehhhh I thought it was a mehpisode (an episode that is meh). If you mean the one after it about the whale, I feel had to much whale death and then too much exploding of said whale. I only liked the ending when they all draw pictures of whale/squid babies.

I don't think the 3rd episode will turn out that badly. It has a lot of potential if done right.

I'm not that hopeful. To me, Futurama ended after they go into that blue thing and Leela and Fry kiss.
In fact, it ended with the very first movie, which would had been the PERFECT ending of the series... if only Fry and Leela got together.
The fact that they're going to put this on again, after years of being off air and having those movies to close up certain story gaps (but opening new ones)-- just doesn't bode well with me. I wish that they can give the series a PROPER goodbye once and for all.
I hate it when a series just ENDS but doesn't truely end... sorta like Firefly and Inyuhasa.

Sounds kind of sad if they're going to start parodying popular culture like SouthPark. Haven't they they learnt yet that they don't have the right show to do that? Cringing already...
How actively do you watch it? Do you haphazardly watch, and perk up when you hear a joke?
The show is brilliant. Sit down, and watch the episodes in order. It really isn't just about crude humor, the show is smart, but it also has some of the funniest jokes on TV.
I have the series on DVD, and I can't tell you how much I watch it. I have seasons 3 and 4 practically memorized. (Well, VOLUMES three and four.)
I'm looking forward to the new season, but with caution. I'm going to watch it, but I'm not getting my hopes up, so I won't be crushed. It's one of my favorite series of all time, and I'd really hate for it to be ruined.

Weren't the 4 movies made into Season 5 and 6 or something crazy like that?
The ending of Into The Wild Green Yonder was supposed to be the series finale, I didn't see any loose ends, but more episodes are fine.
