Tshabalala! You should've scored lad, final minute! Argh.

France weren't particularly improved by the goal, South Africa just lost pace really as they have done in previous games. So many chances though, they'll be disappointed. I hope the South Africans remain brilliant at the games though. A victory against France (albeit a bad French side) is still an achievement when you compare to the predictions people were making about SA beforehand.

Final score, 2-1. Uruguay and Mexico go through. Domenech looked as though he was going to go on a killing spree, and the South Africa coach was holding him back as Domenech listed his targets. Good luck to Blanc. France will need some new blood soon I think.

It was worse. He refused to shake his hand. That's like shooting someone in the back in a western.

Sweet lord, I had no idea. I only saw the SA coach holding his arm in a playcating gesture, as Domenech ranted on about something and was held back by the shrit and jacket from someone else behind.

What a COLOSSAL prick. Way to go out without a LICK of class, man.

Pure awesomeness. You must read it.

Oh so that was what's up. Our reporter didn't know, he thought they were just discussing something.

That's kinda stupid though. You know people are gonna think you are prick for not shaking hands after the match and there wasn't any good reason not to do it (like if SA won unfairly).

I don't feel sorry for France either. I'm glad that they didn't win any match because they didn't deserve to be in the WC in the first place. I was watching Uruguay - Mexico, and I wasn't expecting Uruguay to win, but we did it anyway. Go Uruguay! :D

i can't imagine the party the Irish are having in Dublin after France lost.

au revoir, cheese-eating assholes.

also, did you guys know that if Greece and South Korea win by 3-0, Argentina won't make it through? lol.

I can't see that happening :p

I think Argentina will lay back though. I doubt they're gonna go for another huge victory, unless things are going easy. I assume they don't wanna lose either, so I'm betting for a 1-0 or 2-0 victory for Argentina.

I'm not holding my breath tomorrow for the England vs. Slovenia match. The only time England were convincing IMO was the brief period that resulted in that first goal against USA. The match against Algeria was a waste of 90 minutes of my life.

Hopefully England will manage to pull it out of the bag tomorrow, but like I said, I'm not holding my breath. Any other England supporters have any comments?

I'm settling in to watch Greece vs. Argentina now.

Oh my God! Goal for Nigeria!

With the current standings, Greece is gonna pass this group. That would be such a shame in my opinion, but I assume Argentina is gonna win this match. And if that happens, it is suddenly not unlikely that Nigeria passes this group :o

South-Korea just equalized meaning that SK is currently through to the next round.

Funny goal by the way. He tried to head the ball first, but as it went by him he stuck out his foot in a reflex and shot it right into the side-net.

I so want Greece out of the tournament, that defensive style of playing (6 in the back?!) is making this game dull. If I wasn't rooting for Argentina I would definitely watch the SK v Nigeria game which is probably ten times more exciting than watching Argentina TRYING to make it past the defense and then past the goalie, which by the way is doing a very good job.

I must say I have a real soft spot for this Korean team, they play fantastic passing football and just run and run and run- no wonder Alex Ferguson rates Park so highly. They were the darlings of the 2002 tournament and I feel they are a much better side now and deserve to make it to the last 16.

Greece on the other hand are as bad as Switzerland... boring!

Agreed, this Greek defense just makes the game boring. They have so many in the backfield that Argentina is forced to just knock the ball around at midfield and hope for a hole to open up. It's very slow to watch. I thought Argentina was simply playing very laid back until I realized that there wasn't really much they could do against the million guys in Greece's backfield. Also, the Greek keeper is the reason they're still in this game. He's been lights-out.

Response to 2010 Fifa World Cup Thread 2010-06-22 15:52:00

I agree it's been a boring match so far. I guess that's what you with one very defensive side and one side that does not have to score. I wonder what the Greeks are waiting for though. They only got 30 minutes left and if they don't take action they're gonna be out for sure.

Not that I care, because I hope S-Korea passes.

Gonna need a lot of help with that one.

Also, finally Argentina gets a goal. After all of those corner kicks they've had, it's about time they got one. Now I just have to hope South Korea holds out in their game.

Response to 2010 Fifa World Cup Thread 2010-06-22 16:09:05

Goal Argentina!!!

It was inevitable I guess. Greece should've started acting a long time ago, but they remained defensive. Now they are as good as eliminated.

Good thing though. The less defensive countries in the next round, the better.

Yes, obviously they were prediction before the WC started because at first they all seemed like good picks except Denmark (I picked them for a joke) but now I'm ashamed of these choices.

Well.. so far you are at least right about one ;)

Another goal for Argentina! And for Palermo of all people. I think he's probably the most deserving of a goal on that team. And look at how happy Maradona is. That chubby little midget.

The midget dances and sings and jumps at the sight of the game. A strange sight, indeed.

And now South Korea has punched their ticket the knockout stage!

Now it's time to worry about Argentina....crap.

So the first matches of the next round will be:

Uruguay - South-Korea

Argentina - Mexico

Not very surprising in my opinion. These should be some good games with lots of offensive teams involved. I would bet on Uruguay and Argentina advancing, but I'm hoping for Mexico and South-Korea.

Well, what can I say.
Greece just really threw all of its players in defence, leaving only poor Samaras to attack...
After three early subsitutions due to minor injuries the defenders got tired, and they couldn't be replaced, so the goals were inevitable..
Nevertheless, Greece showed that they weren't afraid of Argentina, they made Messi completely disappear from the match (probably due to the three defenders watching him at all times), and held fast until a goal (that was scored after a possible foul-I know it doesn't matter, but still) made them lose heart..
The defenders and the goalkeeper did a great job, but when you have almost no offense the other team goes into full attack, and that usually isn't good...
Contratulations to both teams, and good luck to Argentina (although my personal opinion is that they don't deserve to win the cup).

Feel bad for Nigeria. All African teams are now out, unless Algeria can beat USA or Ghana gets at least a tie against Germany. Would be sweet if Germany was eliminated though.
