NG Chat is going to suck.

Yes, you heard me, the NG Chat is going to suck.

Why? Because people will stop using the forums. The forums will die down, and we'll all just be screaming at each other in a chat box. It will seem like an easier and more instant way to communicate.

Think about it. The first few days will be crowded as hell, maybe almost impossible to read anything. Afterwards, it will spoil us enough that posting will seem useless.

Just something I thought of right now. Anyone care to prove me wrong?

The forums won't die, at all.
In the forums you can have an organized discussion, as in not a bunch of people talking about a bunch of things at once. You can keep one discussion going in one thread, and in other threads, there are other discussions. Just like there is now, and always has been.

Anyway, I don't agree with you. I don't think everybody will leave the forums if the chat is crowded. If the chat is crowed, everybody will come crying back to the forums.

That's not gonna happen dude. A chat room and a forum are two totally different things, and I personally fucking hate chat rooms. The whole point of a forum is that you can come back to the discussion at any time to add whatever you feel necessary. Can't really do that with a chat room.

This view has been expressed before, but I don't think it will be true. Most of the regular users in particular, I believe will be more frequent to the forums, because it is what they are used to and because they know that the chat will no doubt be spam infested for the most part.

Even still, users have Stickam and PalTalk, yet that has not stopped those users posting on the forums.

The thing about forums is that you can launch a thread, a thought and people can reply on topic to that.
In a chat room, when you ask a question it gets spammed away by others making small talk.

So the forums are still necessary.

I think some of the newer users will move to the chat and I'd guess osme of the well known users will use the BBs and chat. I for one will not ever touch the chat.

the problem i had with NG chat back than was that a user set up a bot to spam the n word whenever i sent a message in the ng chat. so only i could see the spammed messages and the person who set up the bot gets away with it because nobody else sees him spamming except me. i think it is best if there is no ng chat because certain people from newgrounds like to play god over the internet with their illegal internet tools.

There have always been external chat options available to Newgrounders. Paltalk, Stickam, and various flash based chats have never dealt a significant blow to the forums. I don't think a chat client on this site will be any different in terms of the effects on forum activity. If anything, it's a way to divert the trolls and attention seekers away from the forum. Attention whores love instant gratification, and real time chat offers that perk.

Also, if the chat doesn't offer web cam utilization I can't see it being popular at all. In a chat room with 100 Newgrounders vying for attention, a visual way to say "LOOK AT ME I'M RELEVANT" is needed to stay competitive with other chat options.

While I guess a double homicide of chat and forums is possible, I find it unlikely. It is more probable the chat draws all the attention of creeps and spammers, effectively distancing them from the forums and improving the bbs. On the flipside, chat is likely to quickly become a giant cesspool of spam, as I already witnessed while chatting on PoderOdunks unofficial homemade NG radio chat. So yeah, chat probably will suck, unless NG recruits an assload of mods to filter out the crap. It had better allow private rooms with password locks though, or it'll just be more effective to send a billion PMs back and forth.

The forums won't die because of a chat, if you didn't know, there has always been Newgrounds chatrooms around. Back in the day, there were even official (kind of) IRC chats.
