4.09 / 5.00 12,195 ViewsIt's been a long and dark winter. And I discovered to my horror that I have done very little art during it. So it's time to roll up those sleeves and make up for all that procrastinating and embark on a journey of self-discipline, effectiveness, dedication and damsels in distress
last point is optional
The point is - from today, the 4th of June, I'll be making and posting a new drawing/painting/model/whatever every 2 days until the 30th of August.
Will it fizzle of will it succeed? We shall see. But until then, the introductory image.

Does DNA still have you in one of his "projects" clutches?
I hope you can do this man. I've seen a few others try to, but fail at it......
But if anyone can do it, it'll be you!

and glacier nobody cares about your "project" stop bringing it up :P

It wasn't my project it was also re2deemer that was caught up in it as well, he worked on the thing as much as I did.
Really nice starting pic, im looking forward to this.

I originally had an idea for the NEWGROUNDS THROUGH THE AGES art contest to make a scene where three generations of NG tanks would be rolling side-by-side. The old NG tank, the current one and a possible future one. Attempts to make that idea a reaility didn't work out so well because the old NG tank does't really feel so distinctly different. So, it's going to have to be the current-gen tank alone.
Shiny tank is shiny.
@glacier: Nope ;)
Of course, the shiny tank is an elusive specimen, avoiding submitting at all costs.
I can already tell this thread's just gonna be filled to the rim with epic
Awesome work with the colouring and art and all that stuff, keep it coming Mr. Deemer
You're colouring is awesome, style epic, and an entire thread dedicated to a summer of aweso art is a sacrifice of unprecedented standards (time = art).
Nice job, good sir.
go go go go GO!!!
This is going to be really a blast to watch!

Was sitting in my living room, trying to get some schoolwork done. Got a bit frustrated and began to leave. Then I suddenly saw this little fella, sitting by the fireplace. For some reason it looked so inviting and the instinct to put it on paper was so tempting that I just sat down and made this still life drawing.

At some point, disappointed by the electoral campaigns, I was pondering about a political parody image. Of course, I had imagined it to be on a bigger scale and include all 5-6 major parties. Still, out of all of them, I liked the idea of the Green party rolling around on bicycles like madmen the most.
They may have pretty utopian plans, a strange party structure and difficulties with integrity. However, their spokesperson/leader drives a bicycle instead of a multimillion Mercedes Benz. For that, he wis the Internets.
Actually, he's ex-spokesperson. However, I only found ut about it after this was sketched.

Two still life speedpaints. A (cannon?) shell and a mug. I was trying to wrap my head around how those high-specularity-and-sharp-terminator materials work.
Why yes, the shell is indeed in an odd position. You can thank my horribly poor planning ahead.

Nice work re2deemer; youve really improved a lot over the past few months.

There was a very interesting method in an art book I lent about creating leaves with watercolours. And the example image was such a wonderful, warm-looking savannah image that I couldn't resist the desire to try and do something similar.....well, kinda.

This one in my opinion, is a very dramatic piece. It's just gives the feeling of warmth but at the same time gives the hint of sadness. Great job! :D

That certainly is something new, if that's still life then keep practicing but if you just thought of it good work!

Crap, wasn't supposed to be sad. Less blue needed. *clean up squad rolls in*

It's hardly still life considering that Estonia, a country just south of Finland, has temperate climate, moose and drunken bolcheviks. I other words, no savannas to rely on.
I did use photo references of savannas and sunsets but none were of this scene.

Sometimes, you stumble upon that sketch. Thatsketch starts off as a glorious idea, but once you sit down behind a paper, eager to draw it down, you find yourself staring blankly at the paper, feeling like that sketch sapped your drawing abilities.
"Okay then," you think: "I'll just start from somewhere. After all, beginning is the hardest part."
Four sketches have already made their acquaintance with the trash bin and you're already sitting there, frustrated at being unable to summon this awesome idea.
This chain of misfortune continues both throughout the process of sketching and through the process of colouring until you think "Fuck it" and perform the artistic equivalent of ragequit
Long text aside, here's today's fuckup. It was meant to be a piece of fanart for the crazily wacky Source mod Jailbreak:Source. I've always liked to hop around the madness and beat the other players to death with my laser cleaver/katana. I've always liked to play as the Dinosaurs (yes, the game is Dinosaurs vs Robots :D )
Combine those two and you get this.

The lineart for my & Intheblue's robot-themed doubles. Blue actually gave the idea of having a guy jump at a robot and I thought that with some dramatic angles that would be awesome. Of course, this isn't too dramatic, but it'll do.

Conceptart.org is full of useful, motivating and plain interesting threads. Along those is Conceptart 101 which also features many interesting exercises for self-developing one's abilities.
These are exercises #1 (the two drawings at top) and #3 (the two at bottom).
The basic point of the first one is to take a still life object, draw it aaannd then....you change it. Give it horns, make it sci-fi or whatever. The third exercise is the same, but with a scene instead of an object.
I didn't do the second because I'm too lazy to fetch a mirror and too self-conscious to desecrate my own face before the Internet. Didn't have the time to use somebody else's face either.
The full description of those exercises can be found here. I'd personally suggest reading at least a good deal of the more informative posts.
So, my exercise #1 was a still life drawing of my trusty box cutter knife. After that, I converted it into a railgun. A gigantic, aircraft carrier-sized railgun. It had stuck in my head from somewhere that for flinging something one would need such a huge railgun, but I forgot what the object was.
Exercise #3 is of two buildings and trees by my street. The tree annoyed me. So I made it an evil robot, stomping everything. Robots and destruction make everything better.
>_<
The thrill of writing big wall-o-texts can be too create sometimes....

Awwwmn helll....I screw up with that one. Yes, I skipped two updates. I thought it would be awesome to get something bigger done this time around. However, this *something* appeared to be too huge and chewed through my available time (further reduced by the beginning of summer celebrations!) like candy. Stubbornly I kept trucking on to try and still get it done on time...then a day after the time....then for the next scheduled day...then another day....
Nevertheless, here is the final result. Based on personal experience with chainsaws.

On a side note, I smiled to myself when I saw "Please use common sense" at the end of the safety manual for the chainsaw I used. Commons sense is becoming less common in this crazy world and it's nice to have one company promote it instead of filling the manual with silly instructions because some crazy bugger found an...interesting way to use their chainsaw.
