Why would the old iconhelpers page still be up - seems to be missing the point a bit...

On Pico Day, Tom said there was over 77,000 submissions updated with new icons. I imagine around 8,000 more are done since then. That leaves us with roughly 105,000 submissions to go. Yeah, it's a long way but we're doing what we can. :)

That's been brought up here before. It may not have much use now but it's good for finding authors who still need icons since if they didn't make icons in the first place, chances are there won't be a new icon either.

And that of course also has influence on the redesign release.

I haven't been active the last few days because I have been pretty sick, but I should be good by tomorrow and back to making more.

Oh weird, I did have you checked off as having replied, but I de-modded you anyway - I probably meant to demod someone above or below you on the list and clicked the wrong row. You're re-modded!

The redesign was supposed to launch a long time ago so we just put off removing old stuff like that. :(

When Tim gets in I'll have him run some numbers, he can see how many files are in the directories of new thumbnails.

Just to say, the Newgrounds uploading system is being a piece of shit right now. The picture uploader cannot upload shit. It's not working for the icon modding tools and neither on the BBS.

Well guys, I just submitted my 10,000th icon for the upcoming redesign! I made an extra push over the last two weeks to get there and I really should treat myself for the rest of the night... Maybe to watching more submissions, haha. Seriously, though, I'm happy I got this much and this doesn't mean I'll be stopping at all. I've still got all this time so why not make the most of it whilst doing other things as well? I'll see how I go up until the release of Skyrim which that or getting another full-time soon are the best ways to keep me distracted from icon modding. Here's to another 10,000 icons for the future of Newgronds! Oh, and if anyone is curious about what was my 10,000th, this is it:

Hahaha I've made SO MANY DAMN OSAMA ICONS that when I saw that account with THREE more Osama submissions, I had to toss it on the pile for the forums. Thanks for tackling that. :)

Osama Bin Laden and the Numa Numa dance resulted in some of our most popular and shittiest spin-off submissions over the past decade. I want to add a VIEW BY DECADE option just to give people something between the current year and everything. With view by decade, by this time next year all the stuff about Osama would be off the list... Then within a few more years so would all the Numa Numa spin-offs.

And how many sites can even claim to have over a decade of user-generated submissions?

Finished with my finals, so that means it's Icon making time! Oh yeah, congrats Bahamut on the 10k. Quite impressive.

I'm going to set a goal for 100 icons by the end of today.

And there I was thinking all the Osama submissions were done. I'd say my 10,000th icon has a nice summary of what NG was about and still is. I was originally going to have an icon of a dog taking a shit on you but I didn't want it rigged.

Osama Bin Laden and the Numa Numa dance resulted in some of our most popular and shittiest spin-off submissions over the past decade.

For Osama, there's at least submissions that are so bad it's good. Numa Numa on the other hand, the bad parodies don't have much to them and by bad parodies, I mean just re-enacting the original and nothing more.

I want to add a VIEW BY DECADE option just to give people something between the current year and everything. With view by decade, by this time next year all the stuff about Osama would be off the list... Then within a few more years so would all the Numa Numa spin-offs.

The only problem with the Osama submissions is that we had yet more after his death. :P

And how many sites can even claim to have over a decade of user-generated submissions?

I can't name any. Hell, not even YouTube can boast that, although they will be able to in five years time... Is it wrong for me to hope YouTube goes down the tubes by then?

Thanks.

What do you guys use to take the pictures of your icons? I only do icons on my mac, because it takes high quality screenshots and they instantly go on your desktop.. But I don't always have access to my Mac so I can do icons on it.

On Windows I use screenhunter, but the screenshot quality is too low to use for icon making.

Example:

ScreenHunter can be set to record in a specific format. I found that SH saves 256-color gifs well.

I use Shutter, which is an Ubuntu app that autosaves screenshots. I activate it with a hotkey, and use that rectangle select thing to select around what I want. Cropped images upload faster to NG. I also mute Chrome and put on some music, to help me concentrate.

also, to-do list app

I can't believe how much easier it is to use the resize handles to align and frame icons for me. This is revolutionary.
