3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsOkay, so in a few days I'll be going to the US to visit my sister whom has studied abroad for a year. I'll spend a day in school with her to see how school works over there, meet her friends (Hope they're hot) and attend some of her classes. But I'm kind of nervous since I don't know how to talk to her teachers, and I don't want to seem rude. In Sweden you never use Mr or Mrs/Ms. when you talk to someone, but from what I've heard teachers in the US expect their student to adress them like this.
She currently resides in the Philadelphia area, and, is there anything interesting to do there? We'll also make a roadtrip down to Florida, so is there something that a tourist really has to experience on the east coast? (Also, damn that oil leak!)

Life is a performance, and the world is full of critics. Give it your all like it's your last show.

Washington D.C.
The various beaches along the East Coast and some on the EASTERN side of Florida.
I think the best part of visiting the USA is not seeing attractions, but instead experiencing the unique culture. So go! Eat our fatty food! Talk to our strange women! Party it up! :P

EAAASSST COOAAAAST!!!!!!!
and yes they expect to be adressed mr and mrs, but dont sweat it. In the US, open mindedness is ever stressed in the educational system and they will let it slide for you (once or twice)
Other than that, just have fun mate. Theres a lot the USA has to offer besides fat people and bad media.

Yeah, I think we'll visit Washington D.C but I don't know anything about the city except for the White House. And that they had high crime rates.
Yeah, I'm going to try to experience as much as possible, but I've already visited the US two times, so the culture won't be that much of a shock. A like it in the US though, the people are often more straighforward and they're also friendlier/more open to strangers than swedes.
You could visit D.C. I live pretty close to there. but you're from Sweden so you probably have no interest in American history or government.

Specifically, it's a Rutabaga - but they are pretty much just turnips but swedish.

I was thinking rutabaga but couldn't think of the name thanks that was bothering me.
No, in America we refer to the teachers as "Hey bitch."
Seriously! Try it, you'll fit right in.

The crime depends on what part of Washington D.C. you are in. Just keep your things with you at all times. If you leave something behind, it will get stolen.
While in D.C., be sure to visit the Smithsonian museums and the war memorials. Other than that, just walk around. Visit all the [expensive] shops, and food places. The city is full of interesting nooks and crannies, but you have to explore to find them.
Also, the METRO can be your best friend at times. Research the Washington D.C. Metro.

The metro is good for getting in and out of the city but sometimes the Metro busses are good in the city. Its also realy easy to walk from place to place because everything is really close. Especially the Smithsonians and monuments.
Smithsonians and monuments to hit up:
National Air and Space Museum
Natural History Museum
The Zoo but it might be to hot
Washington monument
Lincoln Memorial
Other stuff I cant remember just look at a map. Its pretty cool there.

Hey thanks for the advice guys, I'll try to check out as many of these places as I can. Maybe I'll stay there for a few days, I don't know yet, but I've got plenty of time to spend so, why not? Sounds fun.

west coast has Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle, and coastal towns that don't get too hot in the summer. it doesn't rain much in the summer in most of the west coast because of its' type of climate.
We have d.c,n.c,s.c,florida, and best of all.... east coast!
When you go to Florida, the best beaches are on the Gulf Coast (no the beach isn't going to be covered in oil). The water's clearer and warmer than the Atlantic, especially around the panhandle like Pensacola.
The only thing worth seeing on the Atlantic coast of Florida is Cape Canaveral, where the Kennedy Space Center is. I'd recommend taking a visit.
In Central Florida is Disney, of course. But I never liked Disney...probably because I grew up with Disney and Universal and it bred some sort of hatred for theme parks as I grew up.
